Rising Mortgage Lender REZYFi, Inc. Weathering Difficult Economy with Plans for Nationwide Expansion, Cannabis Industry Lending in Coming Months

  • REZYFi, a Miami-based mortgage lender, servicing traditional and non-traditional loans, is expanding its operations as part of a strategy to weather recent interest rate-affected market challenges
  • REZYFI’s two wholly owned subsidiaries, REZYFi Lending and ResMac Inc., work through a network of independent brokers and proprietary technology to service home owners as well as corporate clients
  • REZYFi expects to grow from more than 30 states where it is licensed to holding a licensing in every state
  • The company is also preparing to launch a high-margin cannabis commercial real estate lending division later this year

Emerging mortgage lender company REZYFi (stylized as “RZFI”) is building toward a planned launch for its product, which targets hard-to-finance lending markets in addition to traditional real estate consumers and includes a developing proprietary technology that will underscore its economy in turnaround time and staffing.

Housing prices rose at a record 43 percent appreciation during the height of the pandemic as the U.S. workforce reconsidered career priorities and quality of life issues, often seeking greener pastures with the hope of greater remote work opportunities (https://cnw.fm/oM9TZ). But in recent weeks, the market has entered the beginnings of a correction — spurred largely by ongoing inflationary concerns and the Fed Reserve’s efforts to curb it by raising interest rates (https://cnw.fm/FnFKF).

As a result of the economic pressures, a number of mortgage lenders have gone bankrupt, particularly among non-qualified (non-QM or NQM) lenders that cater to businesses and consumers that struggle to get a qualified mortgage loan (https://cnw.fm/SQXxd).

REZYFi’s 100 percent-owned subsidiaries — REZYFi Lending and ResMac Inc. — have felt the pressure as well, but are emerging as models of how companies can survive and emerge stronger.

“We’re not the most expensive, and we’re not the least expensive lender. We really pride ourselves on delivering execution and service, really not getting into the price battle, because we’re not a large company with a large balance sheet that can buy down prices and compete on price,” ResMac’s Chief People Officer Evan Tullos told HW Media this month (https://cnw.fm/kb8jC).

Tullos noted the company’s efforts to manage efficient staffing levels and expand its products and services into more commercial markets as part of its growth strategy. A significant segment of the commercial market is state-licensed operators in the cannabis industry, which have long struggled to obtain traditional loans and other banking services despite the boom they’ve enjoyed in recent years as state-by-state legalization efforts have advanced (https://cnw.fm/WgHWU).

RZFI plans to launch a high-margin cannabis division later this year, during its Q4 reporting period, further signs of its expectations for its growth strategy. The company is licensed in more than 30 U.S. states and expects to expand to all remaining states.

The company has invested heavily in designing, building and implementing proprietary automated/machine learning technology to increase efficiencies and improve its outcomes, making it possible to operate its legacy business at staffing levels “meaningfully below those of its competitors,” according to the company.

420 with CNW — New iPhone App Update Allows Users to Search How Cannabis Interacts with Other Drugs

iPhone users will now be able to use their mobile phones to learn about how cannabis interacts with other drugs after the tech giant issued a software update that allows its customers to track medications. Apple has kept its eye on cannabis reform efforts over the years, steadily revising its internal policies to make sure they align with the changing laws.

With more people than ever using marijuana for recreational and medical purposes, Apple has rolled out the technology to help these users learn about drugs that could interact with marijuana. They will be able to do this via Apple’s Health App, an application that gathers health data from the Apple Watch and iPhone into one centralized and convenient location. A medications feature will allow users to build and manage a list of medications, and track them. American users will only have to point their phone cameras at the label of a specific medication and the app will alert them if it will interact with any of the medications they are already taking.

Users will also be able to add cannabis, alcohol and tobacco to their list of medications to see if there are possible interactions between medications on their list. According to a footnote on the tech giant’s press release, the Health App will use evidence-based content from health and science information publisher Elsevier to provide users with information on medication interactions.

This update is especially important now that millions of Americans are using cannabis. Despite limited research on cannabis drug interactions, some studies have found that the plant can interact with pharmaceutical medications such as warfarin. Additionally, Drugs.com estimates that there are about 400 known interactions between marijuana and prescription medications and categorizes 26 of these interactions as major.

Even as dozens of states have legalized either recreational or medical cannabis, a majority of them have passed labeling policies that require cannabis producers to warn customers against potential health risks on their product labels. However, most of these warnings have focused on side effects such as drowsiness and the danger of cannabis-impaired driving. In Florida, producers in the medical cannabis market are required to include a list of possible drug interactions on labels.

Apple still cautions against using the Medications feature in the Health App as an alternative to professional medical advice. The tech giant says that even though medications often provide a list of possible interactions on their labels, users should make sure they consult a medical professional before making any decisions involving their health.

With this new iPhone software update, the users of marijuana from licensed manufacturers such as Cannabis Strategic Ventures Inc. (OTC: NUGS) can access pointers about any potential interactions that could exist between marijuana and their other medications, thereby enabling them to make informed choices.

420 with CNW — Connecticut Governor Launches Education Campaign on Responsible Marijuana Consumption

Earlier this week, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced that the state was launching an education campaign promoting the responsible use of marijuana by adults. The campaign contains resources that cover how to safely store and dispose of marijuana and marijuana waste, as well as what to do in case a child or even a pet ingests marijuana accidentally. These resources, which include brochures, videos, social media graphics and flyers, can be accessed by any individual. They can also be downloaded for free on the state’s ct.gov/cannabis website.

These materials were created by the state’s Department of Consumer Protection in collaboration with the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Department of Public Health. Marijuana and nonmarijuana business owners, community health organizations, medical facilities and others that would like to promote responsible and safe marijuana practices in their communities are encouraged to use these materials.

Gov. Lamont stated that protecting public health included providing individuals with the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions that would keep their families safe. He further noted that the government resources were focused on educating the public about the steps they could take to protect themselves as well as their families from overconsumption and accidental ingestion, adding that the information encouraged adults who chose to use cannabis products to do so in a responsible way.

Michelle H. Seagull, commissioner of the Department of Consumer Protection, stated that the department felt it was important to educate the public about the safety and health measures they could take to store, use and dispose of marijuana products responsibly as the state works towards launching retail sales. Seagull added that agency believed that a successfully regulated marijuana market included empowered and educated consumers, in particular those who had children in their homes.

Nancy Navaretta, commissioner for the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, stated that the department shared Consumer Protection’s commitment to providing information to residents in the state, as this would ensure informed and safe choices regarding adult marijuana use. Navaretta added that the agency had a history of partnering with community and state stakeholders to promote healthy choices and communities as well as prevent substance misuse.

The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services plans to launch a multimedia campaign this fall, which will educate the public about state laws associated with marijuana. The campaign will also educate the public on the potential impacts of marijuana, and will include print media, outdoor, social media, radio and television.

When the adult-use market finally opens, residents and visitors to Connecticut will for the first time have the opportunity to buy legally sourced recreational marijuana. This will be akin to what people in markets where entities such as American Cannabis Partners now take as the norm.

420 with CNW — California Governor Enacts 10 Cannabis Bills as Legislative Session Ends

As the current legislative session drew to an end, it seemed unlikely that lawmakers would be able to pass some kind of cannabis legislation before time ran out. But legislators in California persevered and managed to deliver a slew of cannabis bills to Governor Gavin Newsom just in time. The basket of 10 bills will provide employment protections for cannabis users, facilitate interstate cannabis trade and require the sealing of prior cannabis-related convictions, among others.

Californian lawmakers advanced the bills to the governor’s desk in mid-August after both Assembly Appropriations Committee and Senate Appropriations Committee met to discuss the fate of a variety of drug reform measures. Most of them had just been cleared in the opposing chamber and received amendments along the way, meaning they would have to head back to their bodies of origin before being sent to Gov. Newsom.

The governor signed most of the bills into law, stating that the drug reforms were critical to fulfilling the promises of cannabis legalization in the state of California and addressing the systemic harms caused by the war on drugs. Speaking at a press conference, he said that the promise of cannabis legalization has remained out of the reach of many Californians. He urged policymakers and regulators to redouble their efforts to identify and eliminate the barriers to effective cannabis legalization.

Newsom explained that the passage of the new cannabis measures was a major step toward achieving the state’s goal of cannabis legalization. However, he acknowledged that California still had a long way to go before its cannabis industry was equitable, safe and sustainable. Newsom concluded by saying that he looked forward to working with the legislature and state lawmakers to achieve cannabis legalization across the state.

One of the bills he signed into law is one of if not the first of its kind as it will allow for interstate cannabis trade between California and other states with legal markets on the condition that such trade would not put California at the risk of federal retaliation. It was introduced by Senator Anna Caballero.

Another cannabis legislation from Assemblymember Mia Bonta that sought to enhance California’s criminal justice provisions by directing courts to process record sealing faster and provided other forms of relief for people with certain cannabis convictions also received the governor’s approval. Courts now have until March 1, 2023, to seal records for eligible marijuana offenses that had not been challenged by July 1, 2020.

Hopefully, these cannabis laws just signed by Newsom will translate into tangible improvements in the cannabis market in which entities such as American Cannabis Partners operate.

420 with CNW — Supply Chain Problems, Labor Issues Could Be Resolved by Ending Cannabis Testing

The railroad segment has experienced major upheaval in recent years as job cuts, low pay, and changes to terms and conditions led to disputes with railway worker unions and threats of a strike by railroad workers. This strike would have a significant impact on the country, affecting commuters, refineries, food producers and other industries that rely on the nationwide railroad network.

Last week, news of a tentative agreement between railways and unions indicated that the nationwide railroad strike may have been averted. However, according to a congressman known for his support of cannabis reform, the strike points to deeper labor and supply chain issues that need to be addressed right away. He noted that putting an end to cannabis testing policies could be a good first step toward resolving these issues.

During a recent appearance on a popular media house, Rep. Earl Blumenauer stated that railroad workers were facing an intolerable situation, noting that the new deal was welcome news. He explained that although railroad workers had specialized skills and traditionally received high wages, a gradual reduction of workplace benefits and job security had caused tension within the industry and could potentially exacerbate supply chain problems.

Blumenauer maintained that one solution to this would be to eliminate employment-related marijuana-testing policies, which prevented potential applicants from applying for railroad jobs and caused qualified employees to be terminated or penalized even when they were sober while on the job. A lot of the supply chain shortcomings are due to reduced employee intake, as marijuana testing policies disqualify individuals who have used cannabis in the previous six weeks even though they are qualified for the job. As a result, this increases the workload of qualified railroad workers who are already contending with eroded benefits and an extremely poor work-life balance.

Blumenauer also discussed a bipartisan cannabis research bill he’d sponsored, which had cleared the House a month ago. The measure is expected to advance through the Senate. The resolution, called the Medical Marijuana Research Act, would remove barriers to cannabis research and allow scientists to study cannabis without having to jump through the hoops required to obtain approval to conduct research on Schedule I drugs like cannabis.

This would in turn allow for the development of more accurate cannabis testing technology and make it possible to determine active cannabis impairment, something we can’t do with the technology at hand. Accurate THC impairment technology could theoretically allow employers such as railway companies to update their policies and allow off-duty cannabis use as long as workers are not impaired while on the job.

The marijuana industry is also facing its own supply chain issues, and it is up to companies such as Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) to find ways to navigate the challenging economic conditions.

The 420 Expo, NJ’s First BYOC Public Event, Sparks High Attendance, Open Conversations & Awesome Vibe

Approximately 17,000 People Came Through the Doors of the Inaugural Event in Edison, NJ

The 420 Expo, New Jersey’s first-ever BYOC Consumer Cannabis Convention, was an unmitigated success for the cannabis community, exceeding all expectations. Approximately 17,000 people aged 21+ attended the historic three-day event, from September 16-18, 2022, at the NJ Convention & Expo Center in Edison, NJ. Hosted by the legendary Tommy Chong and presented by Wakit Grinders, the 420 Expo brought together experienced cannabis users, the “canna curious,” and businesses from the cannabis world and beyond in what amounted to one giant celebration. The event also featured significant educational seminars, designed to start breaking down the stigma that is still associated with legalized recreational adult use of marijuana.

“While THC products weren’t for sale at the 420 Expo, just the idea that people could legally bring their own cannabis, and use it, at an event that was clearly curated to support the cannabis community meant a lot to attendees,” said J. Handy, co-founder of the 420 Expo. “People were raving about every part of the expo, from meet-and-greets with celebs like Tommy Chong and Rob Van Dam, to amazing vendors, food trucks, great music, and killer afterparties. It was truly a momentous occasion.”

In addition to the celebratory atmosphere, educational seminars tackled very real and meaningful issues. The 20+ sessions included topics such as “Cannabis 101,” “Combatting the Social, Racial, & Economic Injustices of Cannabis,” “Medical Marijuana Patient Perspectives,” and “Overcoming Addictions” to opiates and other hard drugs with the help of cannabis.

Dan Davis, co-founder of the 420 Expo, said, “It was literally nothing but good vibes. Despite thousands of people, 75+ vendors, tons of live entertainers, etc., there were zero issues. That speaks volumes about the responsible community from all walks of life who are exercising their legal rights with recreational cannabis use, and we hope it debunks many of the misguided perceptions out there.”

Next year’s 420 Expo will take place in the same location on September 22-24, 2023, and planning is already underway. To learn more details as they become available, visit 420Expo.com.
