MustGrow Biologics (CSE: MGRO), an agricultural biotech company, is concentrating its efforts toward the development of a liquid formulation that will support fruit, vegetable, turf, ornamental, tobacco and cannabis products. A recent article discussing the company reads, “MustGrow’s scientific focus this year is on using funds to optimize its liquid formulation and to research the potential for cannabis application. In addition, it is looking to bring in third-party products for the cannabis market under distribution and in-licensing agreements. The first of these third-party products includes an agreement with Triangle Plant Sciences (‘TPS’) to offer exclusive Canadian and global access to TPS’s TP-1000, a bio-fertility product that, based on third-party studies, can increase cannabis yields by approximately 5%,  THC levels by 10% and terpenes by 22% . . . . ‘This is an exciting time to launch a TPS and MustGrow partnership that will deliver TPS’s best-in-class nutrient technology solutions for MustGrow’s high-value hydroponic applications, including cannabis in production legal geographies,’ senior product director at TPS Nick Favret stated after announcing the agreement last month. ‘Third-party indoor trials have demonstrated excellent performance in hydroponic cannabis applications, with significant increases in terpene, and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) concentration.’”

About MustGrow Biologics Corp.

MustGrow is an agricultural biotech company focused on developing and commercializing its patented natural biologic product that acts as a pesticide, fungicide nematicide and fertilizer. Targeting the fruit, vegetable, turf, ornamentals and cannabis industries, MustGrow has designed a U.S. EPA-approved organic solution that uses the mustard seed’s natural defense mechanisms to protect plants from pests and diseases. Approximately $9 million has been spent on 110 independent tests, validating MustGrow’s remarkably safe and effective granular product. 420 with CNW – Study Announced to Investigate Effect of Medical Marijuana on Driver Performance

The Australian government has given a pharmaceutical company permission to study how medical marijuana affects the driving performance of patients.

As the acceptance of medical cannabis increases around the world, concerns have been raised regarding the potential effects of this medicine on road safety. Currently, many jurisdictions in Australia have laws banning patients who take medical marijuana from driving. These bans are premised on fears that the substance could impair the drivers.

The driving restrictions imposed on drivers, as well as the complex bureaucracy that patients must negotiate before they can be enrolled on the medical cannabis program, have limited the rate at which the medical cannabis program is embraced by people in Australia.

In fact, there have been reports of patients who are advised to try medical marijuana to manage their conditions and they decline because they aren’t willing to forego their liberty to drive in exchange for using medical marijuana.

The cannabinoid known to cause a “high” is THC, and medical marijuana products contain it in varying degrees. However, CBD is the most commonly used cannabinoid in medical marijuana products and it doesn’t make users high. That notwithstanding, it isn’t clear whether CBD can impair one’s ability to drive even if it isn’t euphoric.

That is the question that the makers of CannEpil, a medical cannabis product that contains a 20:1 ratio of CBD and THC, want to answer during this trial. This medicine was developed to treat epilepsy that is unresponsive to existing drugs.

This medication is currently available in the UK and Australia in the category of “investigational medicines.” This classification is given to drugs that have not yet been approved by regulators and are still being studied.

The trial will be conducted as a collaboration between MGC Pharmaceuticals (the makers of the drug), the University of Melbourne, and the Swinburne University of Technology. The study will also be used by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (ATA) as a source of safety data about the drug.

During the trail, 30 patients will be divided into two groups. One group will receive a placebo while the other group will take CannEpil. The test subjects will then be subjected to driving performance tests using a hi-tech driving simulator provided by the University of Swinburne. The tests are expected to be conducted over a 14-day period.

Analysts believe that industry players like IONIC Brands Corp. (CSE: IONC) (OTC: IONKF) and Lexaria Bioscience Corp. (CSE: LXX) (OTCQX: LXRP) will be looking forward to the results of this trial since it could open a serious discussion about some of the myths associated with medical marijuana.

420 with CNW – Utah Decides to Switch to a Private Medical Marijuana Distribution System

The subject of medical marijuana elicited heated debates between lawmakers, the medical community, law enforcement and other powerful groups, such as the Mormon Church in Utah. Eventually, voters approved Prop 2 during the 2018 midterms but this measure was quickly replaced by a law drafted behind closed doors. In the law, medical marijuana would be distributed through the state’s health system. In another change to the proposed system, the state has decided to ditch this distribution system and instead opt for a private network to do this work.

The state legislature will hold a special session in which an amendment to effect the change will be adopted.

If that change is approved, the “central till” envisaged in the medical marijuana law will be abandoned and in its place, a network of 12 privately owned and operated dispensaries will sell marijuana throughout the state.

The original plan in the medical marijuana law raised controversy when it proposed that all the medical marijuana should be sold through the state-level and local health departments. Many people felt that the plan would force state employees to become what the federal government describes as “drug traffickers” since the federal government doesn’t regard marijuana as a substance with any therapeutic use and has therefore maintained it on Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act.

When the state government insisted on the central till model, the Attorney for Davis County and the one for Salt Lake City strongly advised their respective health departments to desist from distributing medical cannabis because their employees would be exposed to the risk of federal prosecution on drug-related charges.

Such strong opposition compelled the state to revisit its earlier position, and the result is the amendment to the medical cannabis implementation plan.

The amendment will also include a change to the finance management plan of the program. Previously, Utah had wanted all transactions to be cash-based, but a planned change will see provisions made for electronic payments to be accepted.

In a strange twist of irony, the medical marijuana plan which was approved by voters in 2018 mentioned a private system of distributing medical cannabis. However, this was changed when, without consulting voters, lawmakers agreed with the Mormon Church to use a state-run distribution system. The lawmakers have now had to turn full-circle and go back to the plan that voters approved last year.

Different pro-medical marijuana advocacy groups, such as Together for Responsible Use and Cannabis Education, have welcomed the latest change. Analysts also believe that industry actors like Hemptown USA and HTC Extraction Systems (TSX.V: HTC) are also pleased that this change has been made.
