420 with CNW — Study Finds That Patients with Epilepsy Who Use CBD Have Higher Quality of Life

recent study has found that patients with epilepsy who use CBD products experienced better sleep and a higher quality of life in comparison with those who didn’t take CBD. The study, which was carried out in partnership with scientists at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, was published in the “Epilepsy & Behavior” journal.

The study discovered that epilepsy patients who used cannabinoid products also experienced less psychiatric symptoms, including anxiety, used fewer prescription medications generally and tolerated medications prescribed for epilepsy better. They also reported decreased healthcare use in comparison with patients in the control group.

The authors of the study noted that while no substantial differences in seizure control were observed between patients who didn’t use CBD and those who did, both groups had individuals who hadn’t suffered seizures in the past month.

In their report, the researchers stated that their findings highlighted the need for controlled research to ascertain optimal CBD doses, product types and associated use of other medications that would minimize potential risks and maximize clinical benefit of the cannabinoid’s use.

The study centered on alternatives to Epidiolex, which is the pharmaceutical-grade CBD oil product that the FDA approved to treat specific types of epilepsy in 2018. The researchers explained that prescription CBD was a restricted medication, noting that insurance coverage was often limited to patients who suffered from the approved indications, which is why most patients who suffer from epilepsy chose to use alternative CBD products that are sold by commercial vendors as dietary supplements.

For the study, the researchers conducted an analysis of survey results from nearly 300 patients who suffer from epilepsy and admitted to using artisanal CBD products and about 140 patients who revealed that they did not use any marijuana products. The study’s participants were recruited using social media posts and patient registries provided by the Realm of Caring Foundation, with follow-up surveys being conducted on 190 participants.

Nearly 75% of the patients who took part in the survey were white, with more than 50% of them being female. About 90% of the participants revealed that they had no history of recreational or nonmedical marijuana use. Additionally, more than 90% of the participants reported epilepsy as their main condition, with the remainder revealing that they developed epilepsy related to sleep disorders, neuropsychiatric or autoimmune conditions, cancer and other conditions.

The study was financed by a not-for-profit foundation devoted to CBD therapies, known as the Realm of Caring Foundation.

This study is yet another indication that people who use the CBD products made by cannabis companies such as BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC) may obtain sme relief from certain symptoms that they suffer from.

CannabisNewsBreaks – BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE:7BC) Boasts Unique, Diverse Portfolio of Natural Health Products

BevCanna Enterprises (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC), a diversified health and wellness beverage and natural products company, early this year completed the acquisition of Naturo Group, marking its expansion in the U.S. infused functional beverage market. The acquisition created an ideal situation for BevCanna to compete more effectively in the traditional functional beverage category. BevCanna is a leader in the cannabis-infused beverage and nutraceutical industry, while Naturo Group’s innovative plant-based mineral beverage and supplement brand, TRACE, and significant manufacturing infrastructure and international distribution networks, form the foundation of an industry-leading health and wellness company. “With the acquisition completed in February 2021, BevCanna now boasts one of the most unique and diverse portfolios of beverage and natural health products within both the cannabis and plant-based industries,” reads a recent article. “The company is the only fully licensed, in-house and white-label beverage manufacturing company that produces and distributes both conventional and cannabis-based CPG products.”

420 with CNW — Cannabis Drinks: What You Should Know

As cannabis is legalized for recreational use in more states across the country, the popularity of cannabis products is increasing, especially cannabis drinks.

What are cannabis drinks?

These are beverages that have cannabis infused into them. Cannabis drinks and hemp-infused beverages don’t always contain alcohol, seeing as most are marketed as alternatives to alcohol. Some do contain cannabinoids such as CBN, CBG and CBD, while others contain THC, which is a psychoactive ingredient.

There is an option for both CBD and THC-infused beverages in some jurisdictions.

So, what’s the difference between CBD drinks and hemp drinks?

Cannabis sativa is an umbrella term used to refer to both marijuana and hemp plants. So when we talk about the cannabis industry, we’re referring to more than just weed. Cannabinoids such as hemp oil, Delta-8 and CBD are also included when we refer to this particular industry.

It should be noted that there are different markets within this industry. Additionally, most CBD- and THC-infused drinks aren’t classified as edibles.

The hemp market is involved in the sale of all products derived from hemp. The difference between CBD and hemp is mainly found in how the product is sourced. Hemp plants produce a lot of cannabinoids, including CBD. Hemp products are made with or from hemp oil. These products are usually sourced from the plant’s seeds while CBD products are sourced from the plant’s leaves and stem. This is why CBD products don’t contain hemp oil.

With regard to drinks, hemp beverages are infused with broad-spectrum hemp oil extracted from the hemp plant. These beverages contain small CBD amounts but high concentrations of terpenes and other cannabinoids.

Research has found that hemp soothes general inflammation, promotes heart health, lowers blood pressure and has a positive impact on mood.

On the other hand, CBD drinks are infused with CBD isolate, which means they lack THC. This explains why CBD-infused drinks are calming and relaxing. Although research is limited, CBD has demonstrated strong potential for effectively managing chronic pain, insomnia and anxiety.

What about THC drinks?

THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical responsible for most of the cannabis plant’s psychological effects. This means that THC beverages are infused with the cannabis plant’s main psychoactive compound. These beverages are better enjoyed when sipped on slowly rather than consumed quickly.

Depending on the potency of the THC drink, users may experience a sense of relief and euphoria or get wasted, especially if they drink too much of it, too fast.

Companies such as BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC) have advanced the science of making cannabis beverages to such an extent that the segment is light years ahead of where it started.

420 with CNW — Clinical Studies Shed Light on Various Wellness Benefits of Phytocannabinoids

The CBD sector is among the fastest-growing subcategories of consumer natural health products and for good reason. A recent report estimates that last year, the international consumer health CBD market was worth more than $9 billion, with an expected compound annual growth rate of nearly 25% in the period between 2020–2027.

Studies linking health and wellness to CBD have also driven the manufacture of products derived from CBD in industries such as food and beverages, nutraceuticals, personal care and cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, for health and wellness purposes.

Verdant Oasis VP Carl Germano states that new research which sheds light on the role of hemp phytocannabinoids such as CBD in supporting the endocannabinoid system will influence medicine and nutrition significantly.

Phytocannabinoids are cannabinoids that occur naturally in the marijuana plant. Thus far, researchers have identified more than 120 terpenes and 100 cannabinoids.

Below are some of the uses of CBD and other phytocannabinoids in wellness applications.

Skin conditions

Research has found that CB1 and CB2, which are cannabinoid receptors, are found in hair follicles, eccrine sweat glands, melanocytes, dermal cells, cutaneous nerve fibers and epidermal keratinocytes. A study that administered CBD to cultured human sebocytes found that CBD could be used as a therapeutic agent for treating acne vulgaris because of its combined anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative and lipostatic effects.

Dr. Jacknin’s Skincare CEO Jeanette Jacknin asserted that research had shown that topical CBD as well as other cannabinoids could help in wounds, eczema and acne and suggested that cannabinoids may also help with itching.

Anxiety

A recent review that centered on anxiety disorders and CBD found that CBD held significant potential as a treatment for multiple anxiety disorders. CBD also demonstrated effectiveness in decreasing anxiety in social anxiety disorder.

Immune/respiratory health

In a modeling study that simulated symptoms of acute respiratory distress syndrome, treatment using CBD reversed symptoms by increasing the quantity of a peptide known as apelin, which plays a crucial role in the peripheral and central regulation of immunity.

Another study found that cannabidiol could alleviate the uncontrolled cytokine production responsible for damaging lung tissue, in addition to launching numerous anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects.

Bone health

There is increasing evidence that suggests that phytocannabinoids have a positive effect on the musculoskeletal system. Research has found that CB1 and CB2 receptors, which can be found in bones, help to regulate bone maintenance. In animal studies, researchers have discovered that CBD can protect against bone loss and improve the healing of bone tissue.

With more interest and funds being directed to cannabinoid research to discover the therapeutic benefits they deliver, the CBD market is expected to grow significantly in the future.

As more becomes known about the benefits of phytocannabinoids, companies that make cannabinoid supplements and supplements, such as BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC), are likely to benefit.

420 with CNW — Study Finds That Cannabis Smokers Weigh Less Than Non-Smokers

Preclinical studies suggest that weight gain and increased food intake are some of the effects of marijuana consumption. However, new research proposes that individuals who smoke marijuana weigh less in comparison to those who do not. These findings go against the belief that users of cannabis pile on the pounds due to the munchies.

The new study used data obtained from the National Epidemiologic Survey of Alcohol and Related Conditions to examine the BMI of 33,000 participants aged 18 and above. Conducted by Omayma Ashaarawy and James C. Anthony, the study was reported in the “International Journal of Epidemiology.”

Alshaarawy, an assistant professor of family medicine at the Michigan State University, who also happens to be the lead author of the study, stated that the research, which was carried out over a three-year period, found that all its participants demonstrated an increase in weight. However, the researchers were surprised to find that those who consumed cannabis had a lower increase in comparison with those who did not. Their findings also propose that overall, persistent or new users of marijuana were less likely to be obese or overweight.

The study discovered that users of marijuana, even individuals who hadn’t used it for a long while, actually had a higher likelihood of being at a healthier and normal weight while also staying within that weight range; the study reported that 15% of regular users could be categorized as obese as compared to 20% of non-users.

The actual difference in weight among non-users and users was found to be an average of two pounds, with the researchers noting that this was observed in more than 30,000 of the participants.

In the report, Alshaarawy also suggested that there are several factors that may explain what about cannabis affects weight. She hypothesizes that the use of marijuana could modify how certain receptors or cells responded in the body, which could in turn impact weight gain; another theory could be a behavioral factor like an individual becoming more conscious of their intake of food because they were worried about gaining weight after eating because of the munchies.

As no scientific conclusions have been made, she states that more research needs to be conducted on this particular topic and cautions on the use of cannabis as a diet aid. Alshaarawy adds that individuals shouldn’t consider the use of marijuana as a way to lose or even maintain weight, as there are too many health concerns related to marijuana that could outweigh the possibly positive but modest impacts the plant has on weight gain.

The entire cannabis sector, including companies such as BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC), is likely to have their attention piqued by this research since it dispels a common perception that cannabis users more often than not pile on unwanted pounds.

420 with CNW — Five Ingredients That Could Dominate the 2021 Supplement Space

Last year saw a significant rise in the demand for quality dietary supplements. The coronavirus pandemic prompted millions of individuals to look for supplements that support immune function and also spurred a change in the way consumers thought about protecting their health.

New reports show that more than 80% of Americans are now consuming dietary supplements. However, the products seem to differ when it comes to demographics, as different generations seek out supplements that address various wellness concerns. For instance, millennials are looking for natural ways to decrease the effects of stress, fight anxiety and grow their mental stamina while baby boomers are seeking products that promote cognitive function, healthy aging and strong bones.

So how can brands address these needs while still appealing to the postpandemic population? By offering them the ingredients they seek, of course.

Below are the most popular ingredients in the supplement space this year.

  • Delta 8 THC

This is a legal cannabinoid that is extracted from hemp. Initial research has shown that this cannabinoid possesses anti-nausea and anti-inflammatory properties and may also offer neuroprotection.

Green Market Report shows that the cannabinoid market is booming, with a Hemp Benchmarks Report that was released earlier this year finding that Delta 8 THD was the fastest-growing product in the hemp sector.

  • Emerging cannabinoids

Market researchers forecast that the CBD market in the United States may be valued at roughly $16 billion by the year 2025. CBD has been embraced by consumers across the country and is commonly used to address anxiety, among other uses. While other minor cannabinoids may be harder to extract, the presence of new sourcing methods will make it easier for these cannabinoids to be extracted in large quantities.

Research shows that emerging cannabinoids, including cannabinol, cannabichromene and cannabigerol, have the potential to manage various wellness and health concerns. These cannabinoids are also better suited because they lack the regulatory complications of CBD and THC.

  • Terpenes

These substances are what give plants their scent and are the main constituent of essential oils. Much like linalool, terpenes have a considerable effect on the nervous system, including pain relief. The popularity of terpenes is expected to increase significantly as more research on their therapeutic potential is conducted.

  • Mushrooms

Research has shown that some mushrooms can support cognitive and immune function as well as boost energy, while others possess antioxidants that combat aging as well as anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Nootropics

This is a class of compounds that support brain function and health. They include anti-inflammatory and antioxidant ingredients such as Omega-3 acids and vitamins B12, C and D, which provide neuroprotective support as well as boost cognitive performance, among other benefits.

Brands that would like to expand their footing would do well to keep a close eye on these new ingredients and work to develop products that meet the health-conscious demands of the postpandemic population.

As entrepreneurs see the success of cannabis beverage and supplements companies such as BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC) capitalizing on cannabinoids and terpenes in their products, there is likely to be a rush of more companies entering this space.
