420 with CNW — International Poll Indicates Most Europeans Favor Cannabis Legalization

Even though most territories across the world have outlawed cannabis for decades, the controversial plant has consistently been one of the most-used drugs on the planet. Now that support for drug reform is sweeping the globe, it is becoming clear that a growing number of people around the world are in favor of legalizing marijuana.

A new poll has found that just as in North America, a significant percentage of Europeans support cannabis legalization. The study comes as more and more European countries are considering lifting prohibition policies and allowing medical and even recreational marijuana.

Partly sponsored by Curaleaf International, the Hanway Associates poll surveyed Europeans in eight countries and posed the following question to them: Are you in favor of legalizing and regulating cannabis consumption for adults aged 18 years and older?  Survey participants came from Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

On average, 55% of the respondents were in favor of allowing recreational cannabis use, while 25% revealed that they oppose adult-use cannabis and 18% were not sure. Participants from the Netherlands were particularly supportive of cannabis reform, with a majority of them stating that they were in favor of legalizing the plant for recreational use.

Charlotte Bowyer, head of advisory at Hanway Associates and coauthor of the report, says the findings show that cannabis reform in Europe is now a question of when not if. On top of asking for their views on cannabis legalization, the poll also queried respondents on their thoughts on different types of regulatory models for cannabis sales. This includes the traditional cannabis retailers that are now popping up in America in legal states, home cultivation for personal use or social clubs that allow customers to purchase cannabis and consume it onsite.

The survey showed 48% of the respondents said that they were in favor of regulated retail cannabis stores, 35% preferred a noncommercial model that supported home cultivation, while 32% supported marijuana social clubs that would allow onsite consumption. Interestingly, the model that saw the most opposition across the board was home cultivation with 41% of the respondents opposing the model.

The authors of the report suggest that this may be due to a NIMBY, or “not in my backyard,” attitude where people don’t mind policies and laws that they perceive as unpleasant as long as they aren’t affecting where they live. In this case, the respondents, especially those in France and the UK, may not want to be exposed to other people’s marijuana use.

This poll showing that most people in Europe are in favor of ending the prohibition of marijuana gives internationally focused cannabis companies such as Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) plenty to think about as they plan their entries into those markets once regulatory reforms are enacted.

Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) Celebrates Finalization of Colombian Cannabis Export Protocols

  • Global cannabis brand Flora Growth Corp. is enjoying new opportunities for supplying its Colombian-grown high-THC and high-CBD flower to international markets, thanks to the finalization of regulatory framework allowing legal cannabis exports from the South American country
  • Flora Growth is authorized to export non-psychoactive cannabidiol (“CBD”) products as well as up to 43,600 kg of products with high-tetrahydrocannabinol (“THC”) psychoactive cannabis content
  • Flora Growth’s Cosechemos cultivation facility in central Colombia is currently capable of producing 600 kg of dried cannabis daily, as well as over 10,000 kg of cannabis derivatives annually under EU-GMP guidelines

During the past 10 years, the Colombia’s administration has made substantial strides in ushering in a new era of successful social policy dealing with its storied history (https://cnw.fm/9ludl) and last year President Ivan Duque opened the latest chapter when he helped spearhead efforts to legalize commerce in dried cannabis flowers and biomass for medical purposes and establish a regulatory framework for global cannabis export (https://cnw.fm/M4Fi7).

The country’s new openness to the legal international market for cannabis derivative products is fueling the explosive energy that global cannabis brand builder Flora Growth (NASDAQ: FLGC) has shown in building an international supply chain and distribution networks.

Flora Growth operates a 100-hectare (about 247-acre) cultivation facility known as Cosechemos in the heart of Colombia’s lush green environs, and the company has filed licenses for more than 20 cannabinoid-infused food and beverage products with Colombia’s food and drug regulatory body, including juices, sparkling seltzers, gummies, chocolates, ghee butter and healthy snack foods that prioritize natural ingredients and value-chain sustainability (https://cnw.fm/7Tahj).

On April 4, the company issued a news release celebrating Colombia’s final passage of Resolution 539, which establishes the cannabis flower regulatory checklist that enables licensed cannabis cultivators with export quotas, including Flora, to pass a mandatory approval process for the export of both non-psychoactive CBD and the drug product THC flower.

“Flora applauds the recent announcement by the Colombian Government as we have been working diligently to have all the necessary approvals and capabilities available to produce high THC flower, including multiple cannabis strains with THC levels over 20 percent,” Chief Commercial Officer Jason Warnock stated in the news release (https://cnw.fm/yg98B). “This resolution also clears the path to export dried CBD flower to markets including the United States where Flora already sell hundreds of CBD products via owned brands like JustCBD, MIND, and Mambe.”

Last month, the company announced that the government’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection had expanded approval for its product exports to include not only cannabis derivative products with less than 1 percent of the psychoactive THC compound but also up to 43,600 kg of high-THC cannabis for health and wellness products (https://cnw.fm/Dz1Zb).

Cosechemos is currently capable of producing 600 kg of dried cannabis daily, as well as over 10,000 kg of cannabis derivatives annually under EU-GMP guidelines. The ability to include shipments of dried cannabis flower with derivatives exports to Flora subsidiaries Flora Lab in Bogota, Colombia, and JustCBD in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, helps the company complete the vertical integration of portfolio products including CBD edible, topicals, and other infused products.

420 with CNW — Why Women Use CBD Supplements Daily

More and more women are turning to a cannabis extract called cannabidiol (CBD) as an alternative treatment. Unlike THC, which is the main psychoactive element in cannabis, CBD does not intoxicate users. Studies have found that the cannabinoid has plenty of medical potential and can be used to alleviate conditions such as chronic pain and mood disorders, including PTSD, in place of conventional pharmaceutical treatments.

The medical and health and wellness industries have taken a particular liking to CBD due to its alleged medicinal properties. And, according to data from Ease Survey, female baby boomers account for a large percentage of cannabis users.

Another study revealed that while men are more likely to use cannabidiol for overall health and wellness, women tend to use it to alleviate medical conditions. This is probably because women have often lacked access to medical treatments, with most medical research being centered on men, which led females to seek alternative treatments.

Pain is one of the conditions that push people to CBD. A 2019 poll by Gallup found that 40% of CBD users utilize the cannabinoid for its pain-relieving abilities. On top of chronic conditions such as endometriosis and fibromyalgia, women are likely to experience pain due to the effect menstrual cycles have on their hormones. Fluctuating hormone levels can lead to low estrogen, which increases the body’s sensitivity to pain.

Women also have greater nerve density, which causes them to feel pain more intensely. Another reason women are more likely to turn to CBD supplements is pelvic pain, a condition that specifically affects women. A 2021 study done by University of Michigan researchers found that women with chronic pelvic pain regularly use CBD to alleviate their symptoms. An estimated 76% of the respondents revealed that they substituted pharmaceutical medications with CBD, and 81% said that the cannabinoid reduced their pain.

CBD has also shown potential in treating mood disorders, and plenty of women seem to have noticed. Compared to males, women are more likely to experience anxiety and depression throughout their lives with puberty, pregnancy, postpregnancy, perimenopause and menopause increasing the chances of depression significantly due to hormonal fluctuations. CBD can help regulate and balance these hormones.

Cannabidiol’s antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties make it great for treating skin conditions and promoting healthy skin. With companies developing a wide variety of CBD-infused skin products, such as salves, oils, balms and creams, women are using them to combat conditions, including eczema and psoriasis, and to reduce breakouts.

CBD lube can also help women enhance their sex lives. Alex Capano, the medical director at Ananda Hemp, says that because of the abundance of cannabinoid receptors in reproductive organs, CBD can boost blood flow, which increases sensitivity and natural lubrication. It can also help to reduce performance anxiety and increase muscle relaxation.

The analysis above sheds vital light on the different reasons why plenty of women could be buying CBD-rich products from licensed companies such as Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC).

420 with CNW — Four Factors Marijuana Companies Can Leverage to Tap the Low-Sugar Craze

The cannabis edibles segment has slowly been gaining popularity over the years, eventually generating $1.28 billion in sales in 2021. Cannabis companies have done this by incorporating cannabinoids such as THC and CBD into a wide variety of foodstuffs. However, one segment marijuana companies have had trouble breaking into is sugar-free foods.

As people become more aware of the long-term effects of heavy sugar consumption, a growing percentage of the population is being drawn towards low-sugar alternatives. But with cannabis slowly shedding the “stoner” image and becoming more of a wellness product, TribeTokes CEO Degelis Tufts Pilla says cannabis companies can take advantage of this growing segment.

Evaluating forms and inputs should be the first step. This will essentially involve identifying all the problems you need to solve to successfully create a sugar-free alternative. It is impossible to simply replace high-fructose corn syrup or sugar with a sugar-free sweetener, for instance. Hard candies will require a sugar-free alternative that can also crystallize while giving the substance the right texture. Furthermore, cannabis companies will also have to find a way to cover up the notoriously bitter taste of THC and CBD.

Find natural solutions. It makes sense to use natural options if you’re making sugar-free alternatives. Powders and concentrates made from naturally sweet vegetables and fruits such as berries and sweet potatoes can be quite useful, for instance. A zero-calorie sweetener dubbed “monk fruit” is 100 times sweeter than regular table sugar while date paste, which is regularly used in the Middle East, is gaining popularity in the West.

Costs and supply. Manufacturing sugar-free alternatives can cost significantly more. Furthermore, the supply chain has yet to recover from the disruption caused by covid, leading to higher prices along the supply chain. Dean Hathaway, a senior scientist in R&D at Ripple Brands, says the demand for ingredients is super high as they are typically used in traditional foods. Figuring out a way to keep your costs low without compromising supply will ensure profitability.

Market Your Product. Getting word out about your sugar-free, cannabis-infused products is crucial. Talk about the sugar-free aspect and the health benefits that come with it. According to David Catanzano, head of cannabis operations at Tilt Holdings, consider store promotions and other types of advertising. With the cannabis industry filled with plenty of sellers looking to make a killing, marketing is “everything,” Catanzano says.

As the product offerings of entities such as Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) continue evolving, there is likely to be no limit to the applications to which marijuana and its different compounds will be put.

Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) recently announced the successful import of Mambe CBD-containing food and beverage products into the United States from Colombia. 420 with CNW — Colorado Announces Another Round of Cannabis-Themed Auto Registration Plates

In the two decades since California first legalized recreational cannabis, the controversial plant has generated billions of dollars in taxes for states. Recognizing the impact the war on drugs had on Black and Brown communities, several states dedicated a chunk of these funds toward reinvesting in these communities. Additionally, cannabis taxes have also been used to fund programs that offer various kinds of aid.

Despite the controversy that surrounds cannabis, funds raised from marijuana sales have consistently been used to do good. In that vein, officials from Colorado recently announced that there would be a second round of auctions to sell ceremonial cannabis-themed license plates. The funds raised from this round of auctions will be used to fund programs for people living with disabilities.

There will be 22 different license plates on sale, each of them branded with cannabis-related terms such as 420, HASH, BONGWTR and WEED. People will be able to bid on these cannabis-themed license plates until 4:20 p.m. MT on April 20. In a press release, Colorado Governor Jared Polis said that Colorado’s lucrative cannabis industry has allowed the state to finance critical projects as well as programs that aid the disabled community.

Last year, the Colorado Disability Funding Committee received more than $45,000 from the inaugural auction of ceremonial cannabis license plates. The auction in 2021 featured the TEGRIDY license plate, which is named after a fictional cannabis brand in South Park. It generated the greatest interest among bidders and was presented to the creators of “South Park” to celebrate the anniversary of the show.

According to Lt. Gov. Dianne Primavera, this second round of auctions provides a great opportunity to generate grant funding for entities that serve people living with disabilities.  For starters, some of the funds raised during last year’s auction allowed Family Voices CO to launch a pilot program to help children living with deaf-blindness.

The auction will grant people the liberty to use the marijuana-themed configuration of their choice. They will also be able to resell the configuration in future with the help of the Colorado Disability Funding Committee. Buyers will be required to cover all standard fees applicable to registration, production fees for the customized license plate, plus any extra fees if they prefer a specially designed background for their license plates.

Polis cautioned against driving while intoxicated, stating that cannabis and driving do not mix well. Operating a vehicle while under the influence of cannabis will impair ability to drive safely and significantly increase chances of being involved in an accident.

This fundraising round is testimony to how much good can result when states create laws allowing licensed cannabis companies such as Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) to operate and positively impact different sections of the community, such as the disabled people.

420 with CNW — Increasing Fuel Prices Are Pushing Marijuana Delivery Companies to Go Electric

The price of gasoline is increasing rapidly in various parts of North America, including in Canada and the United States. Figures from the American Automobile Association show that as of last week, the average price of gasoline has jumped to $4.25 per gallon, which is quite an increase when compared to its $2.87 per gallon price for last year.

The Canadian Automobile Association has also observed the same upward trend, with the average national price of gasoline increasing to CA$ 1.72 per liter from its cost last year of CA$ 1.22 per liter.

This increase has put pressure on marijuana delivery companies in the region, which are already paying high operational costs and regulatory fees, all while trying to be profitable. Many believe this increase has been sparked by Russia’s invastion of Ukraine, which caused the price of a barrel of crude oil to go above $100 for the first time in almost a decade.

Owen Allerton, CEO and founder of Highland Cannabis, launched his business in January 2021. He decided to provide delivery services to ensure that consumers were able to obtain what they needed given that this was around the time that a new wave of the coronavirus was sweeping across the country and a lockdown had been imposed.

Allerton purchased a Tesla X for deliveries in an attempt to save on gas, noting that the vehicle possessed handy functionalities that helped make deliveries easier. For instance, the vehicle has the ability to limit speed as well as create a route for deliveries in advance. Additionally, the electric vehicle has a feature that enables Allerton to track the vehicle’s location when someone else is driving it.

Most companies are trying their best to navigate the unexpected increase in gas prices while shielding their customers from any increases in costs. This is because an increase in consumer costs could prompt consumers to purchase less, which will have a negative effect on cannabis companies and their performance.

Electric cars may be a good option for deliveries because they don’t require gasoline and only need to be charged. However, it should be noted that less-expensive electric vehicle models may not be as reliable and likely have a lower range. Additionally, cold weather also affects the reliability and range of some electric vehicles.

Hybrid vehicles may be the answer, however, as they conserve fuel while offering better mileage, thus enabling reliable customer service.

The measures being taken to reduce the bottom line impacts of the increase in the cost of fuel shows how the entire cannabis industry, including entities such as Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC), can be resilient in the face of numerous challenges.
