CBDNewsBreaks – Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) Inks Agreements with Leading Health and Beauty Company, CBD Beverage Company
Flora Growth (NASDAQ: FLGC), a leading all-outdoor cultivator and manufacturer of global cannabis products and brands, has signed a definitive agreement with Avaria Health & Beauty Corp. Based on the agreement, the two companies will form a joint venture (“JV”), named FloVaria Corp., aimed to facilitate the sale of itsaward-winning KaLaya brand; sales efforts will be directed in Latin America (“LATAM”). KaLaya has currently sold more than a million units throughout Canada and is carried in major retail locations including Walmart and Loblaws, where the brand has earned the number-two customer loyalty rating in the natural-value, skin-care category. The agreement increases the value of FLGC’s Colombian distribution channels, which currently numbers more than 2,500. The agreement calls for Flora Growth’s wholly owned, GMP-certified manufacturing facility to produce the cannabinoid-infused products that will be sold through the JV. In addition, Flora will be responsible for distribution, supply chain, and marketing support of KaLaya’s pain-management products in Colombia, Mexico and other LATAM countries, while Avaria will initially provide the finished product to the JV company. In addition, the company also announced that it is entering the cannabis beverage market. The company has entered a licensing agreement with Tonino Lamborghini to produce and distribute CBD beverages. The Tonino Lamborghini product line will launch early next year. Under the agreement, Flora Growth will retain the right of first refusal to distribute any cannabis products globally under the Tonino Lamborghini brand. “We are excited to partner with such a well-known luxury brand as Tonino Lamborghini, which already boasts a very successful line of beverages and aligns with Flora’s brand portfolio of high-end products,” said Flora Growth president and CEO Luis Merchan in the press release. “This partnership is yet another step in the execution of Flora’s strategic plan to build a world-class house of brands and is also a major component of our sales and distribution strategy in the lucrative U.S. market.”

420 with CNW — How the Fashion Industry Is Giving Hemp Fiber a Hand Up
Farmers were allowed to legally cultivate industrial hemp after the 2018 farm bill was passed. Before the plant was banned, it was widely grown in different parts of the country. The plant’s seed, grain and fiber are used in different industries, including the pharmaceutical, animal care, construction and fashion industries.
Retailers and consumers in the fashion industry are keen on using the plant in their many processes, as it provides a sustainable alternative to synthetic materials as well as cotton. This interest continues to grow as the environmental crisis in fashion also intensifies.
Synthetic fibers are cheaper to mass produce, which may explain why they account for 60% of global fiber consumption. The issue isn’t mass production; rather, it’s the minute pieces of plastic shedding from clothes made from these materials that are the problem. These micro-plastics make up almost 35% of micro-plastics in the ocean.
Additionally, natural fibers require a lot of resources for production to occur. For instance, cotton needs roughly 712 gallons of water in order to produce a T-shirt from the material.
This makes the use of hemp fiber, which is not only sustainable but also biodegradable, appealing. However, before its fiber can be produced on a large scale, the United States needs to reconstruct its infrastructure.
Patagonia Materials Developer’s Alexandra LaPierre, stated that hemp was a low-till crop that needed very little water as well as no pesticides, which made the process of cultivating the plant a naturally sustainable practice. Most farmers in America use hemp as a rotation crop as it replenishes nutrients in the soil.
In order to decrease the waste produced by fast fashion and alleviate climate change, companies are focused on using more sustainable ways to afford consumers trendy styles while also producing less waste. Some companies are already developing solutions to help build an ecosystem around industrial hemp by investing millions that will facilitate the advancement of hemp processing technologies, linking the supply chain and connecting farmers to different partners in the country.
One of these companies is Bastcore, which revealed that it had received about $3 million in financing, which will be used to advance its decortication and degumming technology. Decortication refers to the stripping of the outer layer of the plant. On the other hand, degumming helps separate the plant’s fiber from its woody core and also removes pectins and sticky lignins.
The company plans to employ a huge workforce in order to meet the fashion market’s demand for industrial hemp in the future. As companies such as Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) expand their hemp textile operations, demand for hemp strains specifically developed for fiber production is likely to surge.

420 with CNW — The EU Legalizes CBD as Cosmetics Ingredient
Despite the CBD industry’s runaway success in the past couple of years, the sector’s position in several territories is tenuous at best. A relatively new product, cannabidiol (“CBD”) has attracted a ton of consumer attention thanks to claims of its medical efficacy. However, experts say that the hype has outpaced science because there is limited research into the possible benefits and risks of CBD. Furthermore, the European Cosmetic Regulation 1224/2009 prohibits the use of cannabis and its extracts in cosmetics. European authorities have been quite strict against firms in the CBD space as a result, passing policies such as the ban on using cannabis extracts such as cannabidiol in cosmetics.
Fortunately for players interested in entering the CBD cosmetics segment, the EU has legalized the use of cannabidiol as an ingredient in cosmetics. This February, the EU’s directorate-general for internal market, industry, entrepreneurship and SMEs added CBD to the list of legal cosmetic ingredients its Cosing guidelines. This is a cosmetic regulations database that lists authorized and outlawed cosmetic ingredients as well as their uses and functions. With this addition, CBD companies that choose to develop CBD-infused cosmetics can do so without fear of persecution from the authorities.
The CBD cosmetics segment has been on the rise for the past couple of years. Studies have found that CBD has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that make it effective at treating skin conditions, including breakouts, acne, eczema and psoriasis. The global CBD cosmetics market was estimated to be worth $633.6 million in 2018, and it is projected to hit a whopping $1.7 billion by 2025 due to increased awareness of the healing power of CBD cosmetics. Demand for CBD, in general, has been on the rise in Europe, and the European CBD market is projected to grow by 400% over the next couple of years.
CBD’s addition to the EU’s list of legal cosmetic ingredients came after the European Industrial Hemp Association, a transnational organization that promotes the objectives of European industrial hemp entrepreneurs, submitted a proposal to the EU asking it to add CBD to the Cosing database. The organization also asked for the inclusion of a trio of new International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient (“INCI”) names — root extracts from Cannabis Sativa, leaf/stem extracts from cannabis sativa and leaf extracts from Cannabis Sativa — as well as the removal of Cannabis Sativa L restrictions.
The infamous Kanavape Case was also partly responsible for CBD’s entry into the Cosing guidelines. Two French businessmen found themselves facing charges when they imported and marketed CBD oil extracted from hemp biomass with the aim of using it in e-cigarettes. Although their actions were in line with EU laws allowing the free movement of goods between member states, national law only allowed CBD that was extracted from hemp fiber and seeds. The court ruled that this French law was at odds with EU regulations and had a similar effect to restrictions on imports.
With this legalization of the use of CBD in cosmetics within the EU bloc, companies such as Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) that have beauty products containing cannabidiol could see major bursts of growth as they enter the European market.

420 with CNW — Hemp Set to Disrupt the Construction Industry
The most popular building materials today are wood, steel and concrete. While engineers and architects utilize these materials almost by default, a new material on the market may soon shift their interest.
Hemp has been growing in popularity for its many uses, including as a building material. The plant is a nonpsychoactive form of the marijuana plant that has been used for a long time to manufacture bioplastics, insulation and rope, as well as other industrial products due to its rapid growth and strength.
Hemp is becoming a viable option for building, given its differences from and similarities to wood. Its favorable carbon footprint has also helped increase its use in construction.
The plant was legalized under the amended 2018 Farm Bill, which heightened interest in the plant from product manufacturers and entrepreneurs.
Hemp can be grown in about 90 to 120 days, which is 100 times faster than an oak tree. This is in addition to isolating four times more carbon than a forest that is similarly sized. The plant absorbs roughly 20 metric tons of carbon per hectate, which is doubled by its ability to be harvested twice a year.
Many building products made from this plant use its fibers in different ways, including strengthening cementitious materials and weaving textiles. Companies such as Fibonacci, a supplier of hemp products, also manufacture furniture, frames, cabinets, flooring and lumber using hemp. The company’s objective to recreate density, hardness and stability of oak in a hardwood-like material. The hemp product manufacturer notes that its material, dubbed HempWood, is almost twice as strong as oak.
Plantd, a hemp startup based in North Carolina, also recognizes the plant’s considerable carbon performance and strength, with its cofounders Huade Tan and Josh Dorfman noting that this makes the plant an optimal material for use in residential building applications. The company is planning to manufacture hemp-based oriented strand boards, which the Tan and Dorfman claim will be less expensive.
Oriented strand board (“OSB”) is a material possessing favorable mechanical properties that make it ideal for load-bearing applications in construction.
In the short term, hemp may struggle to compete with wood, steel and concrete, as its building products are still confined to interior applications and shorter spans. However, in the long term, it will begin to compete with these popular building materials, especially in the residential construction space. At the moment, its popularity continues to grow, driven by the recent lumber scarcity that has led to a hike in lumber prices.
Hemp isn’t just proving its value in the CBD and construction segments; entities such as Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) are showing just how superior hemp textiles can be, and the market is taking note of this new fabric grabbing headlines.

420 with CNW — Why CBD Is Viable Treatment for Skin Inflammation
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of the two common compounds found in marijuana, the other being THC. Unlike THC, which is a psychoactive compound, CBD is a nonpsychoactive compound. These compounds can be derived directly from the hemp plant or manufactured in a lab. Research has shown that CBD holds the potential for the treatment of various conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety.
It also possesses anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, which can help control various skin issues that commonly affect skin. Its anti-inflammatory properties in particular can be used to treat different skin illnesses. Some consumers prefer using CBD skincare products instead of other skincare and beauty products in the market. Below are some of the benefits one can derive from using CBD for skin inflammation.
CBD can be used to manage acne
Acne is a common inflammatory condition that affects individuals across the globe. It can cause redness and puffiness in an individual’s face, among other things.
CBD can help control acne by managing the redness, puffiness and inflammation associated with this common skin condition. This means that it’s possible for individuals affected with acne to keep their skin healthy and clear using CBD.
CBD can manage inflammation caused by aging
Inflammation is one of the signs of aging that can be seen in individuals. Inflammation is mainly brought about by the accumulation of free radicals on the skin in a process known as oxidative stress.
CBD’s excellent antioxidant properties can be used to control the inflammation caused by oxidative stress, which will in turn help reduce the visible signs of aging on an individual’s skin. This means that CBD skincare products can be used to keep an individual’s skin healthy, young and glowing.
In addition, CBD can also help control various skin diseases such as acne and psoriasis, which means that CBD skincare products can help manage different skin diseases naturally.
CBD can reduce inflammation caused by psoriasis
Psoriasis is a skin disease that causes itchy, scaly and red patches on the scalp, trunk, elbows and knees of an individual. This disease causes difficulties in individuals who suffer from this condition. CBD may help control this skin disease by reducing the inflammation associated with psoriasis and related disorders. CBD has also demonstrated its potential in reducing other symptoms associated with psoriasis, such as pain, swelling and scaly patches.
Companies such as Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) are leveraging the anti-inflammatory attributes of CBD by including this cannabinoid in the formulation of their beauty products, and from the way these products are growing in popularity, consumers seem to be receiving value for their money.
