420 with CNW— Is it Worthwhile to Use CBD Beauty Products?

Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is one of the chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. This cannabinoid is all the rage these days and can be found in a huge variety of products including water, sweets, snacks and even your morning cup of coffee. It is also now being included in body care products such as face masks, moisturizers, body lotions and even lip care products. But should you spend your hard-earned money on these products?

While scientific evidence of their benefit is still scant, a number of studies suggest CBD beauty products may offer some benefits. For example, a 2019 study on CBD ointments used to manage the symptoms of individuals that suffered from atopic dermatitis and psoriasis concluded that CBD could be a safe and efficacious remedy for inflammatory skin ailments. This study had 20 participants.

Another clinical trial done in 2020 focusing on people suffering from peripheral neuropathy indicated that there was symptom relief for those who used CBD when compared to the group that got a placebo. This study had 29 subjects.

While those two studies show promise, their sample size was small, and there is no telling what the results may be if the studies are replicated using large-scale samples. Nevertheless, the preliminary studies suggest that some benefits can be obtained by using CBD in body care products.

The next question may have to do with where to buy the best CBD body-care products. The internet is awash with sites selling these products, but caution has to be taken to select a reputable retailer who is selective about the products they sell.

If there is no particular brand of beauty-care product seller that immediately comes to mind with regard to having a reputation for selling quality products, follow the following tips to select a quality CBD beauty product.

First, read the certificate of analysis (“COA”). This is a lab test report provided by an independent firm. The report details the ingredients and their quantities in a given product. The report also shows what contaminants, if any, are present in the product. Contaminants worth noting include pesticides, heavy metals and mold.

Take note of the potency. The potency of CBD is normally indicated in milligrams. The higher the number, the more potent the product. More isn’t necessarily better as product use requirements differ.

Pay attention to the CBD type. Some products will be made from CBD isolate (pure CBD without any other cannabis compound), full-spectrum CBD (CBD containing other cannabis compounds such as flavonoids, terpenes and THC within the legal limit of 0.3%) and broad-spectrum CBD, which has all other cannabis compounds except THC. Full-spectrum products are said to offer an entourage effect and better results, but you can buy broad-spectrum or isolate CBD products if you have concerns about being tested for drugs.

All in all, it pays to source your products from established suppliers or manufacturers such as Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) so that you don’t risk your money on products from questionable sources.

420 with CNW — Study Finds That Marijuana Use Not Linked to Loss of Motivation

Recently published research shows that the use of cannabis is not independently linked to a loss of motivation among adolescents. The study was conducted over a two-year period by a team of researchers associated with the Florida International University. Study results were published in the Journal of the “International Neuropsychological Society.”

The study’s authors note that a decrease in motivation is commonly mentioned as a consequence of marijuana. However, prior studies have largely centered on adults and have yielded different results. For their study, the researchers recruited more than 400 subjects aged between 14 and 17. Each subject had to complete a quintet of biannual assessments during the study.

The investigators evaluated the motivation of each participant by using two self-reported questionnaires: the Motivation and Engagement Scale and the Apathy Evaluation Scale, which comprise of subscales that measure the value, self-effectiveness, planning, persistence and disengagement that the subjects place on school. In addition, the investigators asked every participant about their use of tobacco, cannabis and alcohol during each evaluation and conducted an analysis of the data to model patterns of motivation and the use of marijuana over time.

The study’s raw results show that the use of marijuana grew considerably, as did the lack of engagement and motivation. The greater use of marijuana was linked to less valuing of school, lower planning and more disengagement. It should be noted, however, that once the data was controlled for variables including the effects of other factors such as depression, sex and age, as well as the participants’ reported use of tobacco and alcohol, the team discovered little evidence that the use of marijuana had an effect on motivation.

In their report, the study’s authors stated that their findings didn’t support a relationship between a decline in motivation and the use of marijuana over time. The researchers also noted that the study didn’t show a loss of motivation over time, even when respondents reported a considerable increase in the use of marijuana.

The researchers explained that the change in the use of marijuana didn’t forecast changes in motivation, despite the increase in the levels of marijuana use, which proposes that the use of marijuana may not cause a decline in motivation over time. The researchers also noted that future study will continue to examine these links longitudinally in order to determine if heavier levels of marijuana use leads to a decrease in motivation.

In a press release, NORML deputy director Paul Armentano stated that these findings served to destroy outdated stereotypes about marijuana.

It looks like the cannabis industry, including players such as Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) have one less myth to contend with, thanks to the research done by the Florida International University team.

CannabisNewsBreaks – Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) Announces LOI, Enters Promising Australian Medical Cannabis and OTC CBD Space

Flora Growth (NASDAQ: FLGC), an all-outdoor cultivator and manufacturer of cannabis-derived products and brands, as signed a Letter of Intent (“LOI”) with Evergreen Pharmacare Pty Ltd. Evergreen is a licensed importer and distributor of medical cannabis products based in Australia, and the LOI calls for Flora to provide raw and finished medical cannabis products for medical cannabis patients. Flora plans to ship the medical-grade cannabis products after the company obtains the correct export licenses and completes its first commercial harvest. The LOI is the second that Flora has signed since recent changes in Colombian law allow the company to sell and export raw cannabis materials, namely dried flower, in addition to derivatives. According to the company, the Australian medical cannabis market is forecast to surpass AU$200 million in 2021 and US$1.5 billion by 2025; some experts forecast that the pharmacist-only CBD market in Australia will reach AU$250 million with approximately 2 million consumers. A key factor in this growth is the decision by the Australian government to move cannabidiol (“CBD”) from Schedule 4 to Schedule 3, which makes it permissible to sell and buy CBD products over the counter. “The agreement with Evergreen will allow us to establish a local partner in Australia while generating incremental revenue from our Colombian cannabis facility and as legislation evolves within Australia,” said Flora Growth chief revenue officer Jason Warnock in the press release. “This agreement also provides significant potential upside by allowing us to work with Australian regulators directly and bring our premium brands and established product formulations to the over-the-counter CBD market. Down-scheduling CBD fits well with Flora’s long-term consumer product strategy of providing proven cannabinoid wellness and beauty products to consumers around the world and we are excited to work with our partners on this new opportunity.”

CannabisNewsBreaks – Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC) Positioned to Benefit from Revised Colombian Regulations, Is Covered by Argus Research Report

Flora Growth (NASDAQ: FLGC), an all-outdoor cultivator and manufacturer of cannabis-derived products and brands, has announced that new Colombian regulations allow the company to increase revenue both long and short term. The regulations also enhance the company’s global supply chain of premium brands and products, and expand economics both domestically and abroad. The changes were made when the president of Colombia accepted and signed into effect revisions to existing Colombian cannabis laws. Revisions now allow for the sale and export of raw cannabis materials, including dried flower, to international markets. In addition, Colombian cultivators are now positioned to be leading suppliers to the global cannabis market. The revised regulations also permit the manufacturing, sale and export of ingestible cannabinoid products in Colombia, providing near-term revenue potential for Flora’s Kasa Wholefoods division. “This legislative update immediately accelerates Flora’s ability to generate revenue through the sale of our cannabis flower to international markets, as noted by our first international supply agreement. Having the ability to export our high-margin, high-quality cannabis flower – in addition to selling cannabinoid ingestible products – will meaningfully impact our growth and revenue generation,” Flora Growth Chief Revenue Officer Jason Warnock stated in the news release. “We are very excited to leverage our existing product portfolio and distribution channels to quickly deliver these new products to Colombians and our international partners.”

In addition, Argus Research, an independent investment research firm, released an Equity Research Report coverage on Flora Growth. The report noted that FLGC leverages cost-effective cannabis cultivation in Colombia and supplies cannabis as well as its derivatives for an expanding range of products, including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, and hemp-based textiles. The report noted that FLGC’s Colombian cultivation operation benefits from favorable weather and produces harvest year-round, with costs lower than other Colombian producers. “In our view, Flora Growth is well positioned to participate in a global cannabis market that BDS Analytics projects will reach $56 billion by 2026, up from $21 billion in 2020,” the report states.
