CBDNewsBreaks – HTC Extraction Systems (TSX.V: HTC) (OTCQB: HTPRF) Holds Favorable Market Position as U.S. Hemp-Based CBD Sales Expected to Reach $22 Billion by 2022

HTC Extraction Systems (TSX.V: HTC) (OTCQB: HTPRF), a hemp-biomass processing entity, is positioned to profit following major investments and acquisitions in the quickly expanding cannabidiol (“CBD”) and cannabinoid market. An article discussing the company reads, “As a developer of proprietary gas, liquid and biomass extraction systems that are designed for the extraction of gas, liquids and biomass, and the distillation and purification of ethanol and ethanol-based solvents used for this extraction, HTC Extraction Systems has a highly positive outlook when it comes to CBD market expansion, with major investments in the acquisition of extracting, purifying and refining equipment. . . . Demand for cannabinoids is growing constantly and, given that cannabis is still a Schedule 1 drug according to the federal government, extraction from cannabis comes with certain legal risks. To avoid legal issues, many companies, including HTC Extraction Systems, focus their efforts on extracting cannabinoids from hemp. This has led to the fast expansion of the hemp industry and especially of the hemp-derived CBD market. According to industry analyst Brightfield Group research, U.S. sales of hemp-based CBD products are projected to reach $22 billion by 2022, up from $591 million in 2018. This is equivalent to a CAGR of 147% (http://cnw.fm/oCrb7).”

420 with CNW – What is the Shelf Life of Cannabis Edibles?

Marijuana edibles give the consumers a good buzz minus the risks associated with smoking or vaping the products, regardless of whether you bought them at a dispensary or made them in your kitchen. Most of these products have an expiry date printed on the packaging or an attached sticker. This means that it is unhealthy and unsafe to consume these products past their expiry date. It is, however, uncertain if the expired products can still get you high.

A number of top-rated manufacturers of marijuana-infused foods have provided some information on the shelf life of homemade and packed edibles so that consumers can get some needed answers about the potency and safety of expired cannabis edibles.

A certified chef de cuisine and master chocolatier, Scott Van Rixel, says that the most critical factor of infused marijuana products apart from the expiration date is the edibles’ shelf life. Rixel is also the founder of Bhang Corporation, which manufactures marijuana edibles.

Rixel further said that the shelf life of an edible is attributed to the fact that it is a food product rather than the fact that it is infused with marijuana. All consumable food products, including those that aren’t infused with marijuana, are made of perishable ingredients that go bad with time and depending on the environmental conditions. Therefore, you may find marijuana-infused products getting stale or going rancid, just like any other non-infused food products.

The CEO of Wana Brands, Nancy Whiteman, said that product packaging and the method used in adding THC to the products could also impact the edibles’ shelf life.

Marijuana experts say that the THC in the infused product would not be destroyed; however, the methods used to mix THC, and the food products, determine its potency.

Research carried out by Wana Brands found that their company’s edible products do not lose their potency over time, said Whiteman. She further explained that they conducted research on their edibles at intervals of six months, nine months, and one year and found that the change in potency is not significant.

However, the process of manufacturing edibles can lead to loss of potency in some products over time, said Ron Silver. Silver is the founder and Chief creative officer at Azuca, a marijuana edibles company. Silver further explained that the thick nature of marijuana oil contributes to the shelf instability of marijuana edibles.

Marijuana oil that is not emulsified correctly separates from the food products, and it is left behind on the surface of the packaging, meaning that you do not ingest all the THC in your edible. Azuca has developed a process that makes cannabinoid molecules water soluble, making it easy for them to be absorbed. This helps to stabilize the edibles.

Although the expired products are still potent, the choice on whether to go ahead and consume that potent  and expired edible depends on the food that was infused and the extent of possible harm the expired food ingredients can inflict. Furthermore, the experience of consuming an expired marijuana edible will not be as pleasurable as with a non-expired edible.

Silver further said that more research is needed to determine and understand the stability of marijuana cannabinoids with certain foods, and their interaction with the body’s metabolism. It would also be essential to find out how sick expired marijuana edibles can make a person.

Proper storage of marijuana edibles prolongs their freshness, and perishable foods such as eggs and dairy should be refrigerated. The temperature in the packaging of gummies should be controlled and they should be kept away from light.

Each marijuana product, especially edibles, is different and that is probably the reason why marijuana sector players like Neutra Corp. (OTC: NTRR) and HTC Extraction Systems (TSX.V: HTC) (OTCQB: HTPRF) emphasize that customers adhere to the usage and storage instructions provided by the manufacturer.

CannabisNewsBreaks – HTC Extraction Systems (TSX.V: HTC) Attains Sizeable Revenue Gains During Q3

HTC Extraction Systems (TSX.V: HTC), a hemp-biomass processing entity, recently announced financial results for third quarter that showed a year-over-year (“YoY”) revenue increase of over 2.5 times. An article discussing the company reads, “HTC’s revenues grew from $1.3 million at the September close of the quarter in 2018 to $3.3 million at the quarter’s end this year, according to the report (http://cnw.fm/5bMiP). . . . The revenue gains continue to reflect growth in the company’s agri-infrastructure operation, but HTC anticipates significant new potential in the explosive growth of cannabinoid-related industries and is building hemp-biomass tolling contracts and extraction facilities to process harvested plants for the cannabidiol (CBD) food and pharmaceutical markets.

420 with CNW – Democrats in Congress Cede to Senate’s Position on Veteran-Related Marijuana Provisions

Democrats in Congress have abandoned two marijuana proposals that were veteran-based and previously approved by Congress as part of their large-scale defense bill.

The House approved its version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) this summer. The legislation had several changes that would prevent the United States Department of Veteran Affairs from denying the veterans’ home loans applications due to their employment status in the legal marijuana sector.

The bill had another policy that would have allowed the military branches to reenlist service members convicted of single simple marijuana offenses.

However, the Senate did not have similar proposals in their legislation, but the leaders from the two bodies agreed to scrap some of the additional policies during the negotiations.

The Democrats did not cede on all the amendments that were not similar to the House legislation; but, both parties made compromises on the amendment proposals where the House withdrew about 630 provisions while the Senate ceded approximately 600.

The House conference negotiators did not view the marijuana measure as a priority. However, according to the sponsors of the bill, marijuana policies were to be prioritized as they represented urgent needs for the veterans and service members.

The home loan amendment provisions were made by Rep. Katherine Clark (D-MA). In May, Clark circulated a sign-on letter addressed to Veteran Affairs. The letter raised the issue and noted that a veteran in her district was denied home loan benefits because he was working in the marijuana industry.

The reenlistment waiver proposal was sponsored by Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ). During a committee hearing in June, Gallego stressed that the country needs to think about military enlistment policies regarding marijuana felonies, especially looking at the recruitment crisis.

Gallego further said that the country’s views on marijuana consumption are changing, and the military has adjusted its recruitment process. He also noted that where necessary, the military can grant waivers to former simple marijuana convicts who want to serve their country.

According to a summary of the legislation, the House conference negotiators agreed on a bill funding “drug interdiction and counter-drug activities” by giving them $1 billion. The bill also calls for an assessment of the impact of any planned border wall construction would have on the quantity of narcotics entering the U.S. The bill includes the Fentanyl Sanctions Act, which puts in place several economic and financial sanctions to cease the operation of international opioid traffickers.

It is uncertain if the House Democrats will fight for the marijuana reform language in the appropriations negotiations. The current temporary spending legislation expires on December 20, and their goal is to finalize the full 2020 Fiscal Year appropriation before the expiration date.

In June, Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) withdrew a policy that would have permitted Veteran Affairs to prescribe medical marijuana to military veterans during the House consideration of the VA appending bill.

Analysts believe that cannabis industry actors, such as HTC Extraction Systems (TSX.V: HTC) (OTCQB: HTPRF) and Lexaria Bioscience Corp. (CSE: LXX) (OTCQX: LXRP), may not be too pleased that veterans will continue to be victimized for their involvement in state-legal marijuana programs.

420 with CNW – Federal Agency Says Those with Drug Convictions Can Work at Credit Unions

The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) is allowing people previously convicted of drug possession to work at credit unions.

In July, the NCUA board announced the proposed changes to their employment regulations, which allows an exception for low-level drug offenders. On Monday, the agency published its ruling in the Federal Register and said that that it examined the comments submitted by the public and that the changes will be enacted into law.

The published notice states that although the NCUA board is not overlooking the impact of drug possession and use on public health, the board believes that people previously convicted of simple drug offenses pose less risk to insured credit unions. The notice further states that when drug convictions are handed out on people in disadvantaged communities, they are bound to experience several collateral consequences.

NCUA further wrote that people convicted of non-violent drug possession offenses are already suffering from extrajudicial consequences such as employment bans, loss of financial aid, loss of voting rights, they cannot access public housing, and are disqualified from occupational licenses as well as denial of public assistance. It also noted that people of color are the most affected by drug convictions.

The published notice further indicates that there remains confusion and uncertainty regarding marijuana offenses such that although it is now legal in many states, federally, marijuana is still illegal.

In certain circumstances, drug offenses are classified as de minimus, which means that those previously convicted do not have to tender a unique application to the NCUA board to be considered for employment.

For a person to qualify for a de minimus, he or she must not have other convictions that require a ban, and they must have been convicted of an offense that does not involve trafficking or manufacturing of Schedule 1 substances. Besides, a minimum of five years must have passed since the conviction.

Most of the public commented on the policy that supports the exception of individuals with a single conviction for simple drug possession, citing that they pose minimal risks to insured credit unions. NCUA further said that the majority of the commenters supported the policy and said that due to the uncertainty surrounding state and federal laws, the exception is appropriate.

NCUA also wrote that some of the comments agreed with the board’s observation that the drug convictions unduly affect people of color, and the convicted individual suffers extrajudicial consequences.

As of January 2, 2020, people who are convicted of petty theft, false identification, and isolated minor offenses would not tender a unique application under the new changes.

In August, NCUA chairman said that before the vote, the House had previously approved a bill protecting banks and credit unions transacting with the marijuana industry from federal regulators as long as they complied with the state laws. The agency also clarified that financial institutions are also now working with hemp businesses since the crop was federally legalized.

Industry experts are in agreement that the entire marijuana industry, including players like Plus Products Inc. (CSE: PLUS) (OTCQB: PLPRF) and HTC Extraction Systems (TSX.V: HTC), welcomes the announcement by the NCUA regarding the employability of persons with minor marijuana convictions on their criminal history.

HempNewsBreaks – HTC Extraction Systems (TSX.V: HTC) Advances Toward Equipment Installation at Hemp-Biomass Extraction Facility

HTC Extraction Systems (TSX.V: HTC), a hemp-biomass processing entity, recently completed its 19,000-square-foot facility in Port Lajord and is anticipating the arrival of its initial new extraction equipment in December 2019. An article discussing the company reads, “Installation of the extraction and formulation equipment will mark the next major stage for the company’s strategy of building on hemp biomass tolling contracts on both sides of the U.S.-Canada border to extract CBD full-spectrum oil (‘FSO’) and to keep a percentage of the distillate for future sales and offtake agreements, including sales to the cannabinoid pharmaceutical market. Bought-deal, private-placement financing that closed last month is injecting aggregate gross proceeds of C$10 million into the venture (http://cnw.fm/9JGzx). . . . The Port Lajord facility has been designed to be one of the highest performance facilities in Canada for hemp-biomass processing, extraction, formulation and refining, and interior work is ongoing to establish it as GMP Euro compliant. It will also house quality assurance testing and product development laboratories.”

420 with CNW – Michigan Starts Issuing Recreational Marijuana Sales Licenses

The legal sale of adult-use cannabis will happen soon after Michigan regulators issued the program’s first business license on Tuesday.

While inside a retailer’s Ann Arbor store, the director of Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency, Andrew Brisbo, issued three licenses to the leaders of Exclusive Brands. The licenses permit the business to grow, process, and sell adult-use pot.

The general manager of Exclusive Brands, Nick Warra, said that licensing marijuana businesses would help in breaking down decades of stigma surrounding smoking weed. While standing inside the Ann Harbor store, Warra added that buying weed will be like going to the liquor store to purchase alcohol.

Michigan residents approved the legalization of recreational marijuana through the ballot in November 2018. Since then, the state regulators have been working to develop a recreational licensing program.

However, medical marijuana patients are worried about the hurried issuance of adult-use business licenses because already, there is a shortage of medical cannabis products on the market, which may be made worse by the sale of recreational weed.

Last week, Michigan’s regulatory authority announced that medical marijuana businesses could sell 50% of their inventory to recreational cannabis customers. The first sale of adult-use weed is expected to be on December 1.

According to Warra, Exclusive Brands has had a medical marijuana business license since 2017. The business will start selling adult-use marijuana on Dec. 1. Delays in selling would be a result of the lack of a statewide tracking system for cannabis.

Warra also added that Exclusive Brands would be working closely with the vendors to make sure that they are ready to launch on December 1.

The selling date of recreational weed might be shifted to Dec. 2 because Dec. 1 falls on a Sunday, which comes immediately after the Thanksgiving holiday. But, license holders have to request permission from the state regulators before using medical marijuana products for the adult-use market.

The spokesperson for the Marijuana Regulatory Agency, David Harns, said that it is uncertain when the sale of recreational pot will start.

Warra revealed that it is still uncertain how many people will show up for the first day of sales of recreational weed, but the numbers are likely to be overwhelming since recreational marijuana is widely popular among residents.

The executive director of the Michigan Cannabis Industry Association, Robin Schneider, criticized the agency decision allowing the transfer of medical marijuana to the recreational market by saying that already, there is a shortage of medical marijuana supply on the market and the transfers will only drive up the product cost for the patients.

However, Warra countered that there are enough products in their company to services both medical and recreational consumers. He also added that Exclusive Brands is in a position to grow, process, and sell its cannabis. He added that businesses that do not own cultivation and processing facilities are the ones that may experience limited supply.

The ability to transfer products from medical marijuana markets to the recreational side will allow retailers to move products where there is demand.

On Tuesday, MRA issued five licenses with two permits being awarded to Real Leaf Solutions, which is based in Kalkaska. It was granted an event organizer license. PSI Labs, which is based in Ann Arbor, was awarded a permit for a safety compliance facility.

Brisbo said that many more licenses would be awarded in the short term. Analysts believe this announcement is music to the ears of the broader cannabis industry, including companies like The Supreme Cannabis Company Inc. (TSX.V: FIRE) (OTCQX: SPRWF) and HTC Extraction Systems (TSX.V: HTC), that would like to see more people enjoying the numerous benefits of marijuana.
