420 with CNW – Arizonans Spent More Than $500M on Medical Marijuana in 2019

Last year, Arizona residents spent more than half a billion dollars on medical marijuana, an increase from the previous year, which is an indication of marijuana prevalence within the state. This year voters will decide whether to legalize adult-use marijuana during the November elections.

According to a year-end report from the Department of Health Services in Arizona, as of December 2019, there were 220,000 registered medical marijuana patients in the state’s program. Last year, these patients bought approximately 83 tons of marijuana.

Compared to the number of tons purchased in 2018 (61 tonnes), there was a 36%  increase, and the number of patients increased by 18% over the course of one year.

The patients purchased most of the marijuana in dry flower form, which was equivalent to 75 tons. The patients also bought around 6,000 pounds of marijuana edibles and 9,226 pounds of other types of marijuana concentrates.

The state sold marijuana worth about $580 million, with each pound of marijuana was sold for an average cost of $3,500. Some of the retail marijuana outlets sell high-end cannabis, which goes for not less than $300 an ounce or approximately $5,000 per pound.

Although the price of weed was expected to drop as marijuana producers increased their efficiency, in 2018, a report commissioned by Arizona dispensaries estimated that the average retail price of marijuana stood at around $4,800 per pound.

Arizona is pushing for recreational marijuana legalization, and the latest quarterly campaign finance reports show nearly $446,000 in contributions from business from the month of October to December. Thirteen individuals also contributed approximately $1,700 towards the campaign efforts.

So far, the overall contributions were $1.6 million for the Smart and Safe Arizona Act. Since September, advocates and supporters of the measure have been collecting signatures to place the bill on the 2020 ballot.

According to the measure, people aged 21 and above would be allowed to possess an ounce of marijuana, while the issue of potency is left to the state to decide.

If the measure is voted for, the act will allow the sale of adult-use marijuana at the existing 130 medical marijuana dispensaries in the state as well as at an additional 26 licensed retail outlets which are aimed at ensuring social equity. The 26 retail outlet permits would be issued to individuals from communities that were adversely affected by prohibition.

The recreational marijuana legalization efforts in Arizona are financed by the existing medical marijuana dispensaries.

In the past quarter, Harvest Health and Recreational Inc. dispensary based in Tempe contributed $250,000. The dispensary is on the way to becoming the largest legal marijuana retailer in the U.S.

MedMen Enterprises Inc. also contributed $200,000 in October. However, the company recently sold its three medical marijuana dispensaries located in Arizona.

Analysts think that going by the sales figures for the medical marijuana market, cannabis companies like MCTC Holdings Inc. (OTC: MCTC) are certain that those glowing figures will pale in comparison to what the recreational market will generate once it is legalized.

420 with CNW – First Cannabis Consumption Lounge Gets Approved in Illinois

Illinois launched recreational marijuana sales on Jan. 1, and less than a month later, the state is planning to open the first marijuana consumption lounge where people would be allowed to use marijuana freely on-site.

Springfield City Council approved a marijuana consumption lounge with a vote of 9 to 1. The HCI Alternatives consumption lounge will be located in the downtown area of Springfield.

Illinois has allowed people to consume marijuana in the comfort of their residences. But, with the approval of marijuana consumption lounges, fans can now consume weed socially away from their homes.

Springfield Alderwoman Doris Turner said that the reason they approved the opening of marijuana lounges was to ensure the safety of people looking to consume marijuana, which is now legal in the state of Illinois. Individuals aged 21 and above are allowed to possess and consume marijuana in the state. Turner further said that she believes that people would be more comfortable and responsible, and they will behave similarly to how they behave when they go to a bar.

The sole dissenting councilman, Alderman Joe McMenamin, said that he was concerned over the consumption of both alcohol and marijuana in the state of Illinois.

During the first day of recreational marijuana sales in Illinois, the dispensaries sold marijuana worth approximately $3.2 million, and the state dispensaries are experiencing a marijuana supply shortage; thus, not meeting the demand of its residents.

The need for safe consumption sites is on the rise as more and more states legalize recreational marijuana.

In the United States, Social Consumption Lounges are places where people can socialize while freely using marijuana, and the lounges are gaining popularity since more places can be seen establishing the consumption lounges.

Speaking to the State-Journal-Register, the owner of HCI, Chris Stone, said that he expects the marijuana lounge to be opened in April. He also said that he hopes that it will be an inspiration for the establishment of other lounges in Illinois.

Stone further said that since it is the first time they are looking to open a consumption lounge in Illinois, they are hoping that in the next three or four months, they will have developed a model that can be used by other businesses looking to venture into the same thing.

Stone also told the news outlet that people could use the movie theater behind the company’s facility to learn how to make marijuana-infused edibles.

Lowell Farms is a Cannabis Café that was opened last year in October in West Hollywood. The café has both an indoor and outdoor patio where people can consume marijuana. The café also sells marijuana products such as flower, concentrates, and edibles.

It is widely believed that cannabis industry players, such as MCTC Holdings Inc. (OTC: MCTC) and Dama Financial, are pleased to see a gradual acceptance of marijuana consumption lounges since it is only logical that there should be a way for people to consume legal marijuana in regulated places outside their homes.

CannabisNewsBreaks – MCTC Holdings, Inc. (MCTC) Launches Project Varin to Develop New Delivery Systems for THC-V

MCTC Holdings (OTC: MCTC), a cannabinoid science forward company developing unique infusion technologies and cannabinoid delivery systems, today announced Project Varin, a program to develop new delivery systems for Tetrahydrocannabivarin (“THC-V”). According to the update, THC-V is becoming known within the cannabinoid sciences arena as the “Skinny Cannabinoid” due to its purported appetite suppression qualities and potential use as a treatment against obesity-associated glucose intolerance. “THC-V is so rare and difficult to obtain, it is currently valued at around $500,000 per kilogram, which is approximately ten times the price of gold. In order for the marketplace to utilize this potentially beneficial exotic cannabinoid, new delivery systems will need to be developed to allow the amount of THC-V administered to be efficiently utilized by the human body,” MCTC Holdings CEO Arman Tabatabaei said in the news release. “This issue of bioavailability has been a significant ongoing concern for the industry relative to many cannabinoids, but with the rarity of THC-V, the need for efficient delivery is hugely amplified. It is our goal to solve this pressing industry issue. Based on our already completed laboratory accomplishments and our patent-pending technologies, we believe this goal is within our reach.”

420 with CNW – Study Provides Insights into People Traveling Across State Lines to Buy Weed

American Marijuana, the company that caused a stir when it advertised a job for someone to paid to smoke weed, conducted a survey exploring people’s travel experiences in search of adult-use cannabis. They asked more than 1,000 people who had traveled to other states to buy legal recreational marijuana about their destination and what they purchased.

There was a lot of interesting feedback on the survey. The survey revealed that 36.5% of the people traveled by plane, while 57.3% traveled via automobile to buy legal marijuana in other states. It is surprising to see that quite a significant number of people went via air despite the heightened security at airports and federal law restricting the movement of weed across state lines.

Most of the states visited by the consumers did not come as a shock because they are some of the states where consumers enjoy low marijuana prices. These states include Colorado, California, Massachusetts, Washington, and Nevada. Oregon did not make it into the top list despite having low prices on marijuana products. Massachusetts is the only state in the east to make it into the list; thus, the level of traffic is most probably going to increase from other states in the coming months and years.

Fifty-two percent of the respondents said that they traveled to Colorado to buy legal weed, while thirty-three percent traveled to California. Since recreational marijuana has been legal in Colorado longer than other states, the state has a competitive edge over other states because its recreational marijuana market has matured, thus low prices overall.

Another surprising finding is that about thirty percent of the respondents who went to other states to buy legal have access to legal adult-use weed within their states. This shows that there are things that are yet to be fulfilled in many of the existing recreational states.

When people were asked what products they buy most, edibles were on top of the list. And some consumers prefer to purchase and evade the long process of making your edibles.

Flower was the second, followed by pre-rolled joints and CBD oils on the list of products bought by the respondents.

While analyzing the survey, it was noticed that a lot of the consumers spent a significant amount of money buying legal weed in other states. If the consumers had legal marijuana shops nearby, time would have been saved and allocated to more appropriate tasks.

Industry analysts believe that the findings of this survey will give marijuana-related companies, such as HTC Extraction Systems (TSX.V: HTC) (OTCQB: HTPRF) and MCTC Holdings Inc. (OTC: MCTC), plenty to think about regarding how best to serve their target customers.

420 with CNW – Illinois Residents Buy Recreational Marijuana Worth $3.2 Million on the First Day of Legal Sales

On Thursday, it was announced that the first day of legal adult-use marijuana sales in Illinois attracted more than 77,000 transactions, which generated approximately $3.2 million in sales. One of the transactions was made by the second-most powerful official in the state, Lieutenant Governor, Juliana Straton, who bought edible gummies. Stratton said that she was there to celebrate the big day in Illinois.

According to Toi Hutchinson, the sale of legal recreational marijuana took effect on New Year’s Day, and the state-licensed dispensaries made 77,128 transactions. Hutchinson is the senior advisor to Governor J.B. Pritzker on marijuana control.

The retail outlets reported long lines of customers during the first day of legal sales, and they expect the lines to persist through the weekend.

Speaking to a reporter on Thursday in Chicago, Hutchinson said that the long lines show that there is a massive opportunity for the cannabis industry to grow.

When compared to other states such as the bordering Michigan, which generated $3.1 million in its first two weeks of legal adult-use sales after the launch on December 1,  it shows that Illinois has a potential for growth since it exceeded that amount within just the first day of sales.

Colorado was the first state in the U.S. to legalize adult-use cannabis. The state launched the sale of marijuana on January 1, 2014 and generated over $1million in sales.

Hutchinson further said that Thursday was the deadline for those who wished to apply for business licenses under the social equity provisions. The day also marked phase two of the Illinois legalization law.

Phase two of the legalization law is meant to help minority applicants who were severely affected by the fight against drugs. The social equity provisions require qualified applicants to pay lower licensing fees. It also provides them with business loans and any other technical assistance.

The legalization laws also stipulate that some of the marijuana revenues would be used for neighborhood development grants. It also had a provision for expungement of low-level marijuana convictions.

On Tuesday last week, Pritzker granted more than 11,000 pardons to people with low-level marijuana convictions.

On the day of legal sales launch, Wednesday, people began streaming in at the dispensaries as early as 6 a.m. Medical marijuana is already legal in Illinois, and now, Illinois is the 11th state to legalize the consumption and sale of adult-use cannabis.

In Illinois, people who are 21 years and above can possess up to 1.06 ounces of marijuana buds and up to 0.17 ounces of marijuana concentrate.

The executive director of the Cannabis Business Association of Illinois, which is based in Springfield, Pamela Althoff, said that most of her Wednesday morning was spent in Chicago and Northwestern suburbs, where customers had to wait for about three hours to be served as the day progressed. She also noted that people were courteous and civil, and the police were present at most dispensaries to control traffic.

Althoff advised consumers not to use marijuana in public and also noted that, like any other new product, marijuana products might be a little costly. Althoff further that they hope that the prices will go down as the market matures.

About 36 licensed dispensaries are selling recreational marijuana, and by May 2020, the state officials said that they would have issued 75 more permits. State officials further estimate that by the end of 2020, Illinois could generate $250million from marijuana sales.

Experts believe that marijuana companies like Grapefruit Boulevard Investments Inc. (OTCQB: IGNG) and MCTC Holdings Inc. (OTC: MCTC) are happy for their counterparts operating in Illinois since the success of the industry there is good for all sector players.
