420 with CNW – COVID-19 Could Add Impetus to Campaigns for Marijuana Home Cultivation

Patients and industry players alike have applauded the decision by numerous states to classify marijuana as an essential commodity, allowing medical and recreational marijuana stores to remain open. As the Coronavirus pandemic ravages the U.S., several state governments have implemented statewide lockdowns to curb its spread.

People are to practice self-isolation and only head outside for essentials like food and medicine, and all but the most essential businesses have been ordered to close. They are also encouraged to wash their hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer regularly.

The open businesses include supermarkets, pharmacies, and daycare centers, and they have permission to operate during the lockdown as they provide essential goods and services. Fortunately for the many people who rely on marijuana to deal with a variety of health issues, numerous states have stated that marijuana is just as essential.

They have taken additional steps such as allowing curbside pickups and home deliveries to ensure both the sellers and patients stay safe as they transact. According to some, allowing people to grow their own marijuana at home might make the self-isolation and social distancing measures even more effective.

Bill Caruso, a lawyer and founding member of New Jersey United for Marijuana Reform says that support for home cultivation exists among patients and industry professionals. “I talk to a lot of folks in the industry. A lot of people think that the industry is fighting this. I have not heard one credible source in the cannabis industry that is opposed,” he stated during an NJ Insider webinar.

A large percentage of medical marijuana patients are old folk with underlying health issues, and this makes them more susceptible to contracting and succumbing to the Coronavirus. During the webinar, industry leaders and advocates argued that medical patients shouldn’t have to rely on outside sources to acquire plant medicine. Even with measures like curbside pickups and home deliveries, such patients are still at a higher risk of getting infected by the virus.

“If you have a child with Dravet Syndrome and you don’t have access to your medicine, that’s a big freaking deal. And that should make people angry, right? People should not have to worry about where they’re going to get medicines for themselves or for their child,” said Scott Rudder, President of the New Jersey CannaBusiness Association.

While any major legislative changes are unlikely in the short term, advocates believe the Coronavirus pandemic could eventually push lawmakers into reconsidering the ban on home cultivation.

It would be eye-opening to get a glimpse into what sector players like Round Meadow Holdings Corp. and SinglePoint Inc. (OTCQB: SING) recommend as the best ways to ease the fears of lawmakers regarding marijuana home grows.

420 with CNW – Colorado Kickstarts Marijuana Home Deliveries

In May 2019, Colorado Governor Jared Polis passed a bill that allowed home delivery for medical and recreational marijuana. The move was lauded by reform advocates and industry representatives who said it was a major step in the right direction for the state’s marijuana industry. The legislation granted licensed medical cannabis shops permission to deliver marijuana to their patients from January 2020, while recreational deliveries to adults 21 and older will start in January 2021.

This month, the state issued the first marijuana delivery license to Boulder-based medical cannabis dispensary The Dandelion, which is owned and operated by retail chain Native Roots. Ironically, the timing was purely coincidental and had nothing to do with the Coronavirus pandemic that’s currently wreaking havoc across the world.

“The timing is a total coincidence, but it’s timely. Medical delivery is really another option for patients to utilize social distancing,” says Sharon Fender, Director of Public Affairs for Native Roots. The virus is transmitted through droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, and medical experts state that social distancing and self-isolation are the best way to prevent new infections.

Authorities have been implementing Coronavirus measures meant to curb its spread, and all businesses except the most essential have to be shut down. Numerous states have included cannabis retailers in this group, and most of them have been looking into home deliveries and curbside pickups to reduce contact between customers.

The Dandelion’s delivery service will be available to patients living in either Boulder or the nearby town of Superior. They also have to be registered with the dispensary, and Native Roots has stated that it is ‘looking into a compliant, remote solution for patient registration’ for patients looking to sign up.

There is a $100 minimum purchase, and in accordance with advice from medical experts, the dispensary is advising customers to pay with debit cards and avoid cash changing hands.

At the moment, the world is on high alert as the Coronavirus pandemic throws systems that were in place for decades into disarray. Many economies are already showing the strain as businesses have been forced to shut down and millions rendered unemployed. Three months after appearing in Wuhan, China, the virus has infected over 700,000 individuals and left at least 30,000 dead. Home deliveries will help businesses stay afloat and allow people to buy what they need without compromising their health.

“The state rightfully prioritized the medical patient community for cannabis delivery, many of whom suffer from serious illnesses, pain and mobility issues. With permission from both municipal and state legislators, we are excited to begin the first-ever legal cannabis delivery service in Colorado. We are hopeful other jurisdictions will follow their lead and opt into medical delivery as soon as possible,” says Fender.

Experts see this commencement as yet another way through which the cannabis industry is contributing to limiting social contact at this time when the Coronavirus pandemic is raging. Sector players like SinglePoint Inc. (OTCQB: SING) are believed to be urging their customers to take advantage of every opportunity to receive consumer products in their homes without having to move out and risk being exposed to COVID-19.

420 with CNW – How Marijuana Retailers Can Adapt to the COVID-19 Pandemic

Most of us have never seen or experienced a disease of such epic proportions as the novel Coronavirus. Just a few months after it first appeared, the virus has infected over 150,000 people worldwide and left at least 10,000 dead. According to experts, the virus may end up infecting up to 70% of the world’s population if it continues spreading unabated.

In response, governments all over the world have ordered lockdowns of varying degrees. Since the virus is transmitted through droplets from coughs and sneezes, self-isolation and social distancing are the top preventive measures. This, coupled with constant and thorough hand washing with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer is the best way to avoid infection.

Group gatherings are discouraged and all but the most essential businesses have to be closed. For many states, licensed marijuana dispensaries have been lucky to make the cut.

However, with the measures put forth by authorities in response to the pandemic, these businesses will have to adapt to keep both the staff and customers safe. For starters,

Prioritize online bookings. Large gatherings are the virus’ best friend, and people are advised to stay six feet away from each other. This, however, makes shopping in small dispensaries impossible. Online platforms are the best alternative as they allow customers to remotely book their purchase then pop over to the dispensary for a quick pickup.

Curbside pickups are another measure introduced to limit physical contact by states like California, Oregon, Illinois and Michigan. Customers remain in their vehicles, and an employee will bring out your order. Curbside pickups coupled with online bookings will result in a much more efficient and sterile transaction.

Even better, deliver. The best way to prevent congestion at the dispensary is to deliver. While this may require some resources if a delivery system isn’t already in place, it will be a lifesaver during long periods of self-isolation. Customers will want to buy from sellers who deliver right to their doorstep. It completely limits contact or even proximity to large groups, and if the driver takes proper precautions, the entire process will stay as sterile as possible.

While we all hope this pandemic wraps up as soon as possible, it’s more likely the virus will be with us for a while, and the lockdowns even longer. These measures will help marijuana retailers weather the storm that’s sure to come.

It wouldn’t be surprising to learn that cannabis companies like SinglePoint Inc. (OTCQB: SING) are already thinking of ways to adapt to the crisis in order to stay afloat and safeguard customers.

420 with CNW – Coronavirus Fears Prompt Michigan to Temporarily Allow Curbside Marijuana Deliveries

More than two months after the Coronavirus appeared in Wuhan, China, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the virus a pandemic. With more than 180,000 infected and over 4,000 left dead in its wake, the virus doesn’t seem to be taking a break anytime soon. In fact, governments have started making contingency plans for the worst case scenarios, with experts predicting that up to 70% of Americans may be infected if no treatment is found.

As numerous states go into shutdown mode, people have been stocking up for an indeterminate period of self-isolation. Everything from non-perishable foods to cleaning supplies and drugs, everything is game. Michigan has started allowing curbside pickup at marijuana stores on a temporary basis in light of this prevailing scare.

The state has about 15 recreational marijuana stores and 66 medical marijuana dispensaries, and the Marijuana Regulatory Agency has encouraged medical marijuana patients and recreational customers to place delivery orders when possible.

The agency is lifting a requirement that anyone placing a marijuana order have an ID with the same address as the delivery location, and it has promised to process delivery service license requests for already licensed businesses within 48 hours.

“During a crisis like this, you really get to see if state governments are prepared or not, and in this case, our department is absolutely shining,” says Robin Schneider, Michigan Cannabis Industry Association Director. She also heads a marijuana trade organization with 200 licensed members, and she states that her members have asked for the ability to make curbside sales outside their businesses to limit personal contact.

“The curbside pickup is going to make a world of difference in order to protect the workers in this process,” she says.

“Customers may complete an order including payment for their product via the internet or they may place their order once parked at the facility. An employee from the licensed facility or adult-use establishment is permitted to complete the sales transaction by interacting with the customer in the parking lot and recording the necessary information into the statewide monitoring system,” states the Marijuana Regulatory Agency.

According to Schneider, marijuana sales have been spiking as retail establishments shut down. “There has been an increase of customers who are stockpiling both medical and recreational cannabis and sales are definitely up, just like other essentials.”

The measure allowing curbside pickups is temporary, and it will stay in place until the agency terminates it.

Experts believe that industry players like Round Meadow Holdings Corp. and SinglePoint Inc. (OTCQB: SING) are likely to welcome this proactive step taken by the authorities in Michigan amidst the Coronavirus crisis.

420 with CNW – Congressional Committee Passes Bills Expanding Veterans Access to Medical Cannabis

For the past few years, attitudes towards cannabis have been shifting. Although it is still illegal at the federal level, the narrative isn’t as dire as it used to be. We now know that the cannabis plant produces a group of chemicals called cannabinoids that have potent and diverse medical properties. We also know that taken consistently and at a reasonable dosage, cannabis can alleviate a ton of conditions, ranging from insomnia and anxiety to chronic pain.

However, the road hasn’t been easy. A number of states have legalized medical and recreational marijuana use, but the fact that it’s illegal at the federal level doesn’t help matters. Medical marijuana has still come a long way, though, and it might go even further thanks to a pair of key bills that were recently approved by a Congressional committee.

The bills expand veterans’ access to medical marijuana. One would allow Veteran Affairs (VA) doctors to issue medical marijuana prescriptions in states with legal programs. They currently aren’t allowed to do so. The other bill would direct the VA to conduct a clinical trial to test the efficacy of marijuana in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), chronic pain and other health issues veterans are likely to get.

“We have been working for years to give veterans the opportunity to receive legal medical cannabis treatment for chronic pain and PTSD. Even though this has been approved on the floor of the House in the past as an amendment to appropriations bills, it has been stonewalled by the Senate Republican leadership. This is the way forward to guarantee it becomes the law of the land,” says Rep. Earl Blumenauer, who introduced the first bill.

Currently, veterans can only access medical marijuana if they choose to go outside their VA network and cover all the costs out of pocket. The VA department accepts this arrangement as stated on its website. Its leadership has also stated that it will follow the example set by the federal government, which holds that marijuana is a Schedule 1 drug.

According to Don Murphy, the director of federal policies at the Marijuana Policy Project, passing these bills should be the first order of business for a ‘Congress that prides itself on supporting our veterans.’

“Like every American, veterans should be granted the freedom to access cannabis to treat their medical conditions as an alternative to potentially dangerous pharmaceuticals,” Don Murphy asserts.

Former VA Secretary Dr. David Shulkin states that there is growing evidence that properly prescribed medical marijuana may have some real benefits in anxiety improvement, pain management and potentially, in the issue of substance abuse.

“I think the time is now. I believe that the VA should be involved in research on anything that could potentially help veterans and improve their health and well-being,” says Shulkin.

The bills still have a long way to go before they become law, so experts think cannabis companies like SinglePoint Inc. (OTCQB: SING) will only be happy once veterans are allowed by law to consider medical marijuana for their needs.
