Red White & Bloom Brands (CSE: RWB) (OTCQX: RWBYF), a multistate cannabis sector operator, is off to a strong start in building its high-quality flower resource for product inventory at dispensaries throughout Florida. The company has been working to launch growing operations at its Apopka, Florida-based cultivation location, adding 19,200 square feet of production expected to deliver $30 million in annual revenues. According to a recent article, “Red White & Bloom is focused on Florida ahead of a ‘massive medical marijuana boom’ expected to sweep the state as prohibitionist policies recede (https://cnw.fm/dZ7My).” “We have nurtured our strains to produce high quality flower in the Florida climate while producing high yields, industry-leading THC percentages and superior terpene content,” said Jim Frazier, the general manager of Red White & Bloom’s Florida cultivation subsidiary. “The grow pods provide us with speed to market capabilities which are needed for RWBFL to meet and exceed expectations for generating profitable revenue early in 2022.”

420 with CNW — Major Kombucha Company Ventures into Marijuana Space

The most popular Kombucha brand globally, GT’s Living Foods is venturing into a new market: the marijuana industry. The firm is launching a marijuana–infused brew known as Cannabliss in the state of California.

GT’s Living Foods has operated as part of the health and wellness sector for more than 20 years. It currently holds roughly 47% of the category market share through continued innovation. The brand has been brewing healthy beverages for more than two decades, which makes its move to create its first marijuana-infused line a well-calculated one.

The CEO and founder of the company, GT Dave, stated that the company couldn’t ignore the power of the marijuana plant as it continued to innovate with plant-based wellness, noting that the plant’s power went beyond recreational and aligned with the company’s belief that plants and food are medicine. GT Dave explained that when combined with other natural adaptogens, marijuana provided various healing properties and positive benefits.

With the introduction of its cannabis-infused beverage to the market, the company hopes to unleash the power of the cannabis plant so consumers can obtain some of its body health and mind benefits.

The company’s Cannabliss line combines CBD and THC with prebiotics from apple cider vinegar, full-spectrum marijuana and a blend of mushrooms, in order to nourish the gut. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the primary psychoactive compound in marijuana that induces a high. On the other hand, CBD (cannabidiol) is a common active ingredient found in marijuana. Unlike THC, this compound doesn’t cause any highs.

The beverage will be available in two varieties: wild and mild. The two come in these flavors:

  • Cannabliss wild ginger haze, which has a lemon and ginger flavor and has been infused with 3 mg of CBD and 7 mg of THC.
  • Cannabliss mild piña express, which has a pineapple flavor and has been infused with 7 mg of CBD and 3 mg of THC

Cannabliss will be available for purchase by consumers at various dispensaries in the state of California.

The company is one of the largest mainstream beverage companies to venture into the marijuana industry. Other big companies participating in the industry include Constellation Brands, which has injected billions into Canopy Growth.

Earlier this year, Canopy Growth began selling its CBD-infused sparkling water, Quatreau, which comes in four flavors: blueberry with acai, ginger with lime, passion fruit with guava and cucumber with mint.

The stage looks set for stiff competition between the new kid on the block and established cannabis drink companies such as BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC).

420 with CNW — How the Marijuana Industry Is Leveraging the CPG Technique

The state-legal cannabis industry has come quite a long way, all things considered. After decades of racially motivated prohibition and the proliferation of anti-cannabis propaganda, Americans in dozens of states can now legally access the controversial plant. Dozens of states now allow medical marijuana while nearly 20 states have passed recreational cannabis legislation, building a massively lucrative state-legal cannabis market and attracting plenty of new businesses. Coincidentally, a lot of the talent drawn to America’s nascent cannabis industry is from the consumer packaged goods (“CPG”) space, and these experienced professionals are applying techniques they learned to the young but lucrative sector.

Consumer packaged goods companies have been around for decades, and they have pretty much standardized the techniques for taking a CPG from initial development all the way to profitability. But since the cannabis industry has legal and regulatory considerations that most other industries don’t, mostly thanks to its federal status as a Schedule I Controlled Substance, leaders in the cannabis space have been careful with how they apply CPG techniques. Presently, most forward-thinking cannabis companies are using a variety of different form factors collectively called Cannabis 2.0.

While the industry was still in its infancy, Cannabis 1.0 was the main model. It mainly consisted of cannabis flower lumped into two categories: indica and sativa. There was limited product differentiation and few standards for product safety, but as the industry grew, states began setting regulations for product quality, the market saw an influx of different cannabis products and the customer base grew. Leaders in the cannabis space are now leveraging CPG techniques to ensure their products remain marketable and relevant as the industry matures.

With the cannabis market now proliferated with all kinds of products, including edibles, concentrates, and beverages, branding has become especially crucial, says Greenlane Holdings CEO Nick Kovacevich. Branding will allow cannabis companies to create differentiation and better connect with their customers. This will help cannabis companies carve out portions of the ever-increasing cannabis market as more consumers purchase cannabis products. And to cater to the growing consumer base, Cannabis 2.0 products are diversified to meet different consumer needs and wants, just as in the CPG space.

Curaleaf CEO Joseph Bayern is also chiming in, noting that CPG companies achieve profitability by understanding their customers’ needs and developing better products than their competitors to meet those needs. Cannabis companies that are looking to expand past state borders have also been held back by the patchwork regulations governing America’s state-legal cannabis space. To work around this, multistate operators are installing individual operations that can produce products that meet local, state and municipal standards and ensure customer satisfaction.

Companies in the cannabis space are also adopting CPG strategies such as upper and lower funnel marketing and good-better-best pricing that have had success for consumer packaged goods companies, says Adam Grablick, CEO of Kiva Confections. Moving forward, he says, cannabis companies will need to focus on positioning, segmentation, product points-of-difference, and evolving consumer needs and wants to ensure their brands stay competitive.

As the industry grows over the coming years, we are likely to see a lot more innovation from sector players such as Red White & Bloom Brands Inc. (CSE: RWB) (OTCQX: RWBYF) as the fight to consolidate market dominance intensifies.

420 with CNW — Patients, Doctors Now Discussing Medical Marijuana

Cannabis has always been a controversial topic. Even as dozens of states passed medical cannabis regulations and more studies found that the plant had plenty of medical potential, the stigma around cannabis remained. Not only did this prevent important conversations surrounding topics such as the disproportionate effects of cannabis prohibition from happening early enough, but it also kept patients from talking about cannabis with their doctors, even if they stood to benefit a great deal from marijuana-based treatment. However, results from a new survey indicate that this may be changing.

Healthcare company Cannaceutica conducted a survey of 445 healthcare providers and asked them whether their patients had talked to them about cannabis or requested medical marijuana treatments in the past 30 days. More than 70%  said their patients had made inquiries about cannabis treatments in the past month, with the patients asking about cannabis far more often compared to other alternative pain treatments such as physical therapy, massage and acupuncture. The healthcare providers who took part in the online survey included general practitioners, nurse practitioners, rheumatologists, pain-management specialists and neurologists.

The results of the survey reveal a drastic shift in how people view cannabis. Traditionally, patients who could benefit from cannabis treatments have refrained from asking their doctors about medical marijuana for fear of being seen as potheads or being dropped by their doctors. Similarly, health practitioners weren’t comfortable discussing cannabis with their patients as it is still federally prohibited and hasn’t been sufficiently studied and researched. In fact, national polls from 2018 and 2019 revealed that less than 40% of patients discussed cannabis use with their doctors.

Fortunately, today more patients are willing to raise the option of medical cannabis treatments with their healthcare providers. According to Cannaceutica’s survey, 81% of healthcare providers believe cannabis will play a role in chronic pain management in the future. Still, only one person in four healthcare practitioners would recommend medical marijuana to their patients currently, mostly due to the scarcity of reliable cannabis research as well as the legal and regulatory issues surrounding the plant. With several lawmakers working to pass legislation that would federally decriminalize cannabis, there is a chance the federal government could legalize cannabis in the near future.

If that happens, 74% of the survey participants said they would endorse a medical cannabis treatment plan. They would also be more comfortable recommending medical marijuana if there was more scientific research and documentation about the benefits and risks of using cannabis as a chronic pain treatment. At the moment, 64% said they obtained most of the cannabis information they knew from their patients, 44% from the internet and 40% from medical journals.

Now that patients are talking to their doctors about medical cannabis, it may not be long before cutting-edge enabling technology such as the smart inhalers manufactured RYAH Group Inc. (CSE: RYAH) become commonplace among patients who are collaborating with their doctors on matters of managing various health conditions.

420 with CNW — Four Marijuana Products That May Offer Relief from PMS Symptoms

Periods usually affect women differently. While some feel discomfort, a huge number experience rough periods, enduring debilitating pain as well as symptoms such as abdominal pressure, muscle aches, nausea and more.

Premenstrual syndrome (“PMS”) is a group of symptoms that occur between ovulation and periods. It manifests in various symptoms and signs, which include irritability, fatigue, food cravings, tender breasts, mood swings and depression.

Research has shown that marijuana possesses medicinal benefits that are effective in the management of pain. Did you know, however, that it can also be used to obtain relief from premenstrual syndrome? The marijuana industry has maximized on this, developing different products, such as marijuana tampons and suppositories, designed to offer fast and localized relief in the treatment of some of these symptoms.

Below are some products that can help ease the discomfort caused by premenstrual syndrome.

Skin Creams and Balms

There exists in the market a variety of creams that can be applied on the lower abdomen and back, which are areas commonly affected by period pains. These products offer effective pain relief, with brands such as Well Care Botanicals producing some of the popular products in the market.

Marijuana balms can also be used on different parts of the body, offering analgesic effects for pain relief.

Suppositories

Marijuana suppositories have been developed to offer rapid pain relief. They take roughly 15 minutes to begin working and normally work on an individual’s pelvis region, helping relax the uterus and muscles.

Suppositories have varying levels of THC, depending on the brand. CBD suppository options also exist. Suppositories can also treat hemorrhoids and constipation, as well as make sexual intercourse less painful.

CBD Tinctures

Tinctures are strong and concentrated. CBD tinctures can heal premenstrual pain with just a few drops placed under an individual’s tongue. They act fast, kicking in within 10 minutes. Tinctures are said to be a safe option for daytime consumption because they do not induce highs.

However, tinctures typically have an oily and powerful taste, so keep that in mind when selecting pain-relief options.

Bath Salts

It is said that relaxation is a good remedy for many things, including period cramps and premenstrual pain, which means that cannabis bath salts and a long and relaxing bath may provide pain relief.

Cannabis bath salts are a powerful and effective way to offer relief from pain, lasting more than four hours.

A variety of brands can be found on the market, including products made by leading companies such as Simply Sonoma Inc., so there are plenty of options available.

420 with CNW — VA Researcher Shares Cannabis Insights, Study Results during Latest Podcast

In a new podcast, a researcher from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs stated that individuals suffering from PTSD who use cannabis experience fewer symptoms of the disorder and recover more quickly than individuals who don’t. The forensic neuro-psychiatrist, Hal Wortzel, discussed the findings of an observational study he’d carried out during the podcast. This is in addition to talking about how the ongoing federal prohibition on cannabis has hindered research from progressing.

To learn how marijuana affects post-traumatic stress disorder, the team of researchers, led by Wortzel, tracked two groups comprising of 150 individuals living with the condition. Of this number, one-half used cannabis to manage their symptoms while the other half didn’t. The individuals were tracked for a period of years, with researchers noting that despite the limits to observational studies, their results offered evidence that cannabis has therapeutic benefits for some populations.

Wortzel stated that in comparison with those who didn’t use cannabis, those who used cannabis recovered more quickly and were roughly twice as likely to not meet the criteria for PTSD after a while. The research also found that cannabis wasn’t linked to better sleep or other functional activity levels and outcomes. This is surprising, as anecdotal evidence from many individuals report improved sleep with marijuana.

In the podcast, which is produced by the Rocky Mountain Mental Illness Research Education and Clinical Center, Wortzel stated that a greater investment in experimental studies on cannabis’ health impacts needed to be made. He explained that because cannabis and cannabis products were still federally illegal, researchers needed to use the products developed by the U.S. government to conduct experimental studies, which aren’t the products that the majority of people in the U.S. use or purchase from dispensaries.

Most researchers, including the head of NIDA, have complained that they are currently forced to use marijuana grown from one federally authorized source at the University of Mississippi to conduct studies; that marijuana isn’t available in the state-legal commercial markets.

This is one of the cannabis research barriers highlighted in a report that the National Institute of Drug Abuse submitted to Congress recently. Congressional legislators are currently focused on advancing measures to end cannabis prohibition.

However, officials from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs have rejected even the fairest legislation that was drafted to promote clinical research into the medical value of marijuana, as well as promote veteran access to medical cannabis. Such reluctance on the part of the VA may make it harder for veterans to access even the beneficial products currently available from companies such as Flora Growth Corp. (NASDAQ: FLGC).

420 with CNW — Bill to Remove Regulatory Grey Area for CBD in Drinks, Supplements Filed in Congress

Although CBD has been legal since the 2018 farm bill legalized the cultivation and growth of industrial hemp and its derivatives, the young industry is largely unregulated. Hemp stakeholders have urged the federal government to craft comprehensive regulations for CBD as sales of CBD-infused products ramp up, but the responsible agencies have dragged their feet. As a result, the cannabidiol industry has attracted plenty of dishonest entities that have flooded the market with subpar CBD products which can even put consumers’ health at risk.

After years of back and forth, a bill that would remove the regulatory gray area for CBD-infused supplements and drinks has finally been unveiled. Introduced by bipartisan House lawmakers, the CBD Product Safety and Standardization Act would compel the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) to develop regulations for the lucrative CBD market.

The FDA will also have to hold a public comment period for information gathering on the maximum amount of cannabidiol that can be added to a beverage or food item per serving. The public comment period will also be instrumental in helping the FDA determine proper packaging and labeling requirements as well as the ‘conditions of intended use,’ which refers to what the label claims a product is to be used for.

The bill is sponsored by Representatives Kathleen Rice, Morgan Griffith, Dan Crenshaw and Angie Craig. According to a press release from Rice, CBD’s popularity has increased exponentially in the recent past, but the industry has been held back by the absence of federal regulations. The murky regulatory landscape puts customers at risk by providing minimal protections against subpar and often contaminated products and leaves businesses clamoring for some clarity. The new bill will create a comprehensive regulatory framework that will ensure unsafe products stay off the shelves and provide cannabis businesses with the stability they need to succeed, Rice says.

Griffith says that the FDA still hasn’t caught up with the reality that CBD is massively popular and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Like Rice, he says that the lack of regulation has put consumer health at significant risk and filled cannabis businesses with uncertainty. The CBD Product Safety and Standardization Act would fix these issues by compelling the FDA to act on CBD swiftly. As expected, the new bill has been met with support from the U.S. Hemp Roundtable and Consumer Brands Association. Jonathan Miller, general counsel for the roundtable praised certain aspects of the bill and said the hemp industry is thankful to its sponsors.

A law regulating the use of cannabidiol in drinks and supplements would be of great help to sector players such as BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC) since it would be clear what rules everyone in the industry is playing by.
