420 with CNW – Sports Fans & Cannabis Use

According to a poll conducted by Morning Consult which was released on Friday, a great deal of fans of the UFC, racing and e-sports are likely to use CBD or marijuana while fans who watch baseball, golf and football are least likely to use marijuana or CBD.

The poll which involved 1269 U.S. participants looks into cannabis consumption and how common it is between self-identified sports fans from 14 groups.

From the poll, 35 % of e-sports fans admitted they ingest or smoke marijuana sometimes or often while 29% stated that they used CBD goods. In comparison, 20% of Major league baseball enthusiasts stated that they ingest marijuana with 17% saying they consumed CBD.

According to Morning Consult, despite golf enthusiasts being among the least frequent marijuana users, the Professional Golfers’ Association is one of only two leagues which allows CBD sponsorships, the other league being IndyCar racing. The leagues incorporated into the survey allow alcohol and gambling marketing but none permit marijuana sponsorships.

The classification of marijuana as an illegal Schedule I drug by the U.S. government, despite it being legal in 11 states makes it a no-no for the leagues. Following the swiftness with which teams and leagues began to do business with betting firms after the Supreme Court’s 2018 reversal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act shows there’s still hope for CBD and marijuana firms.

This development comes as various professional sports leagues look into internal CBD and marijuana policies for their players.

Earlier in the year, Major League Baseball reported that they would no longer test players for cannabis though they’re still barred from getting sponsored by marijuana firms.

Around June, when reports emerged that players would not be tested for cannabis and other recreational drugs on a temporary basis, the head of the NBA’s players union joined a major marijuana firm as a board member.

Additionally, the World Anti-Doping Agency in 2017 stated that athletes could consume CBD. Recently, it also expanded its allowable restriction on THC metabolites.

In addition to this, the NFL as well made the resolution to limit the testing window and stop suspensions for those who tested positive during drug tests.

At the Professional Golfers’ Association, players were warned last year that THC was still banned by the league and they should be careful as some CBD products may have some traces of THC. This easing of restrictions shows that a time will come when companies like Pure Extracts Corp. will sign deals with sports teams and leagues without an interference from sports authorities.

420 with CNW – Growing Tips Every Cannabis Grower Should Know

With medical marijuana now legal in 33 states and recreational marijuana is making inroads into the law books of more than a dozen states, the following tips might come in handy, whether you grow cannabis for personal use or for a dispensary.

Please note that growing marijuana is actually not that easy. It takes a lot of commitment, effort and of course, resources.

  1. Grow your weed indoors

Growing your buds indoors allows you more control of the atmosphere as well as the whole growth operation. It’s also more hygienic indoors, making it ideal for growing cannabis.

The best thing about this is, you can use grow boxes, there’s no need for a greenhouse. That is unless of course, you are running a large scale operation.

This does not mean you can’t grow your weed outside, just that the results may not be what you expect.

  1. You’ll need lots of lighting

If you opt to grow your cannabis indoors, then you’ll need light. Marijuana planted outside receives light from the sun, so you’ll have to compensate with artificial lighting, lots of it.

Therefore, purchase high-quality lights, reflectors, hoods and ballast is mandatory.  Try to change the bulbs no less than two times in a year. Second grade bulbs are just like the ordinary light bulbs, so only buy the high quality ones.

  • Go for the best strains

Good genetics grant good weed. Find and choose an excellent marijuana strain from the many options available.

You can look for good weed strains from the internet. There are many online seed sellers who can provide strains of high-quality. Additionally, you can use the Cannaconnection strain finder to get a good strain.

Keep in mind to purchase your strain a credible supplier for the best.

  1. Have Strict Bedtimes

For most marijuana strains, the growth cycle is about eight weeks. To help them reach their growth potential, you can implement consistent “night” and “day” times. Equal parts twelve hours of light and twelve hours of darkness every day is sufficient.

Maintaining this routine for the entire cycle will aid in healthy cannabis growth. As a beginner, you may not get as rich a yield as what is obtained by established companies like Pac Roots Cannabis Corp. (CSE: PACR), but you will certainly get better as long as you remain willing to learn.

  1. Go step by step

In each stage of the cannabis growth cycle, there are different needs. During the first stage, a lot of nitrogen is needed for the plant to bloom and grow. In the last stages, almost no nitrogen is required. Giving it a lot of nitrogen during this stage will results in a nasty metallic taste of the strain.

So, you should be careful to only provide your plants with what is needed in each stage of the growth cycle.

Additionally, stick to nutrients that are not premixed. You can purchase various base element nutrients and blend them yourself. This ensures you give your plants precisely what they need.

  1. The quality of water matters

For the best results, install a filtration or reverse osmosis system. This will prevent dissolved solids such as chlorine and fluoride from affecting your plants.

Note: Be sure to frequently change your filters for the best water quality.

At the end of the day though, the care and attention you give your plants is what will influence the quality of your strain. Will they be healthy or will they be dull? You decide.

420 with CNW – Federal Court Rejects DEA Request to Throw Out Marijuana Rescheduling Case

A federal court of appeal in the U.S. has shot down a request by the Drug Enforcement Administration (“DEA”) challenging a lawsuit against the existing marijuana classification in the federal law. The federal agency was sued by veterans and scientists over their decision to declare cannabis as belonging to schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act.

The decision sparked mixed reactions among various players in the marijuana sector who termed the move unconstitutional.

The petitioners in the case argued that the DEA’s scheduling standards misinterpreted the federal law. DEA’s contentious claim dismissing marijuana’s approval for use in medication has set the center stage for protracted legal battles among various actors.

Typically, the government’s stand dismissing the medicinal value of marijuana has disgruntled various marijuana industry players.

The DEA led the government to believe that marijuana hasn’t been proved to be safe for use in the medical sector. In the case, the petitioners argue that a proposal by DEA calling for strict control in the use of marijuana is unconstitutional. The strict rules suggested guiding the use of marijuana continue to elicit a sharp reaction from various marijuana industry advocates.

Delays in licensing more marijuana growers for research purposes has sparked uproar among some lawmakers. A group of disgruntled lawmakers has therefore requested the DEA to fast track the process of formulating policies guiding the issuance of more licenses to research-grade marijuana manufacturers.

On the other hand, medical cannabis patients filed a lawsuit against the DEA petitioning a move by the U.S. government prohibiting the use of marijuana. In the case, medical cannabis patients have requested the U.S. Supreme Court to pick up their case that has undergone several rulings in the lower courts since the initial lawsuit was filed back in 2017.

A number of times, the DEA has been taken to court by Scottsdale Research institute SRI over dubious marijuana policies. The policies are said to hurt the cannabis industry. SRI has been instrumental in pushing for changes in policies governing the marijuana industry, and it is one of the applicants for licenses to manufacture marijuana for research purposes.

Most petitioners in the case have raised concerns about the DEA’s scheduling standards based on government perception that marijuana has no proven medicinal value. In this case, the push and shove in proper policies to guide the cannabis industry has brought a back and forth kind of approach that has delayed the release of appropriate laws and regulations to govern the marijuana sector.

Shane Pennington, one of the legal counsels representing Scottsdale Research Institute SRI indicated that a 9th circuit panel is anticipated to review the arguments of the case and give a decision based on merit.

It is widely expected that the entire cannabis industry, including Cannabis Global Inc. (OTC: CBGL), will be following this case closely until its conclusion.

420 with CNW – Why Automation is Advantageous for Cannabis Businesses

With the pandemic leading to closure of businesses due to low demand and many others operating their businesses online to adhere to the social distancing regulations, there is no better time than now to automate your cannabis business. Automating your business ensures both you and your employees are not recklessly putting themselves in harm’s way while also increasing the efficiency of your business.

The margins in the marijuana sector are growing tighter as the sector gets more competitive. To survive, businesses must adapt and adopt automation.

Below are reasons why automating your business is the best way to go.

Allows one to control quality

To increase sales and achieve consumer loyalty, one’s product has to consistent, be of high quality and the integrity of the terpenes should be maintained. Implementing automation ensures that if a high-quality raw material is used, the end product is of high quality as well. The precision automation offers will be essential in the coming years in order to remain competitive.

Helps increase production

Implementing automation in harvesting and post-harvesting processes increases production, cuts down on employee hours and maintains product quality. Automation increases overall efficiency, giving a company an edge in a highly competitive market.

Less staff are required

Additionally, automation eliminates the need for employees, making it the less costly and far better option as it allows businesses to employ only highly trained individuals for the long term. This saves businesses a lot, especially in terms of income for employees, money spent on training and is generally less time consuming to oversee; an added advantage.

Automation also decreases the risk of contamination of a product, as no workers will be physically handling the product. The machines made of high-grade stainless steel are easy to clean and sterilize, making them safer for product handling.

Furthermore, automation also minimizes the risk of financial loss caused by errors made by workers, which may be fatal for small businesses.

Improves workplace safety

Utilizing machines in one’s facility ensures that the workplace has minimal accidents and workers can observe social distancing at work. Using conveyors to move the products between different stations also eliminates the need to have workers in close proximity to each other. The safety this provides allows the workers to focus on their current tasks without the fear of getting infected.

Automation promotes a healthy working environment as it shows employees that their safety and health is valued in the business. Socially distanced production and automation is the future and we are living in it. There is a likelihood that it will endure long after the pandemic ends because of the many benefits it offers not only to a business’ production process but also to the employees of the business. It may therefore not be surprising to learn that cannabis companies like Sugarmade, Inc. (OTCQB: SGMD) have automated most of their operations.

420 with CNW – Law Enforcement Coalition Urges Congress to Legalize Marijuana

A group of four state attorneys general, together with 50 current or former law enforcement officials, have written to Congressional leaders urging them to vote on and pass a bill that would federally legalize marijuana.

In their letter that was signed and delivered on Wednesday, the law enforcement experts say that it would be more helpful to regulate and control marijuana instead of criminalizing and prohibiting the substance. They add that the ongoing pandemic brings to light how urgent it is to make these reforms as a matter of public safety, health and to put scarce law enforcement resources to better use.

One possible starting point they suggest is the passing of the MORE Act which is awaiting a House floor vote after it was passed last year by the House Judiciary Committee. There are unconfirmed reports that this bill is due to be voted on in September on the floor of the House of Representatives.

The coalition also points out in their letter that legalizing marijuana would go a long way towards repairing the strained relationship between law enforcement officers and the communities they are sworn to serve and protect. Federal marijuana legalization would also result in a change of approach from punishing and criminalizing people who use drugs to treating them so that they can recover.

LEAP, or the Law Enforcement Action Partnership, was in charge of getting together the law enforcement officials who signed the letter sent to Congress. The attorneys general who signed include the one for Minnesota, Delaware, Oregon and the one for New York State. One of the former attorneys general of Ohio also signed the letter, and so did representatives of the National Black Police Association. Dozens of former and current prosecutors as well as several police officials also appended their signatures to the letter.

“We ask all members of Congress to support the critical piece of legislation before them so that the bill is quickly brought for a floor vote in the House,” the law enforcement professionals urged.

The letter from the law enforcement officials comes at a time when a poll commissioned by LEAP found that nearly six in ten voters support federal marijuana legalization and the support grew once the poll participants were told the contents of the MORE Act. The survey also revealed that bipartisan support exists for reinvesting some of the tax revenue generated from marijuana sales into the communities which suffered the brunt of the failed war on drugs. Experts say this social justice component is precisely what the entire cannabis industry, including Pure Extracts Corp., has been advocating for.

420 with CNW – Vote on Marijuana Legalization Measures in Montana Scheduled for November

On Thursday, the secretary of state of Montana reported that marijuana advocates had gathered enough signatures, hence qualifying two legalization measures for the November ballot.

In one of the initiatives mentioned, a legal change is cited that would form a structure for adults to access cannabis legally. In addition to this, a different constitutional change will make certain that only individuals who are at least 21 years or older could engage in this market. If voters accept this statutory measure, it will make it legal to cultivate a maximum of four seedlings and four mature plants in one’s home as well as have in your possession approximately one ounce of cannabis.

Issuance of business licenses would begin on January 1 in 2022 with medical cannabis companies that already exist being among the first to penetrate the market. The legal industry would be overseen and regulated by the Montana Department of Revenue which would also be in charge of issuing the licenses.

It is also noted that tax rate on medical cannabis goods would be decreased to 1% from 2% while a 20% sales tax would be imposed on recreational marijuana. The revenue collected from sales made legally would be directed to water, wildlife and land conservation programs. It is estimated that by the fiscal year of 2025, the legal cannabis market will produce approximately $38,500,000 in taxes.

Research conducted also showed that most of the voters in Montana have no qualms with legalization and with the chance for voters to pass the law, this would lead to the formation of new jobs and the generation of more revenue for the state of Montana.

Additionally, in the amendment it was stated that the state constitution would be modified to read that individuals of 18 years and older are adults by law but the initiative may increase the legal age for consuming, purchasing or possessing marijuana and alcoholic beverages. The vote looks promising from previous legalizations of medical cannabis in the year 2004 and a following expansion measure in the year 2016 of the same.

Petitions for the cannabis measures were proposed in June and on Thursday, the state secretary officially stated that both initiatives have been certified to be on this year’s General Election Ballot scheduled for November.

In conclusion, Montana voters have the chance to pass a policy that legalizes recreational marijuana use which will generate revenue, allow the police to focus on other crimes as well as create jobs. Analysts say Pac Roots Cannabis Corp. (CSE: PACR) will be hoping that Montanans get accurate information upon which they will vote appropriately.

420 with CNW – Weed Vending Machines in Colorado: The Future of Non-Contact Highs

With many companies going online in order to cater for the increased demand for online ordering with some offering additional curbside pickup due to the pandemic, one company in Colorado is making sure people can also purchase their cannabis without fear of getting infected with COVID-19.

Anna, a company founded by Matt Frost, who is also the CEO, makes vending machines designed to fill and take marijuana product orders.

The first vending machine debuted at the Strawberry Fields dispensary, located in central Pueblo. Consumers now have the option of purchasing edibles, vape oils, and flower, all without any interaction with a budtender. Later this year, a second vending machine will be installed in the Starbuds dispensary located in Aurora.

This concept was originally developed by Frost, who has a background in healthcare data analytics to adapt the efficiency of a market self-serve system to the cannabis industry. In his home state, Massachusetts, waits in dispensaries range from a few minutes to a few hours with some shops recommending that customers pre-order online then schedule pick-up times for ease of purchase.

Vending machines offer an added advantage to cannabis consumers who have no need to speak to a budtender as they already know what they want. This opens up more time for customers who may have questions and need to interact with a budtender for help and enquiries.

There are four vending machines set up in Strawberry Fields. To access them, consumers are required to display identification in order to check in to use them. Each vending machine shows a digital form of the menu on the 27-inch touch screen where customers can stock up on their purchases virtually. The system also offers the option to pay using cash or a debit card. The machine, dubbed Anna, then dispenses the goods, providing a grab-and-go experience.

The Anna app by the same company, will be launched and may be used if consumers wish to pre-order then check out using the vending machine. For now though, only weed is stocked in these vending machines so you’ll have to find another substitute for when the munchies hit.

Frost has his eye set on the cannabidiol market, with the hopes of putting up Anna machines that sell non-psychoactive cannabis products in retail stores and gas stations in the near future. He also hints at a very lucrative partnership with a company that has significant CBD distribution opportunities. He states that the release is scheduled for fall. If you asked sector players like The Alkaline Water Company Inc. (CSE: WTER) (NASDAQ: WTER) if they thought 2020 would be the year cannabis starts being dispensed by vending machines, it is likely that none of them would have expected this to happen so soon, a sign of how fast the industry is becoming mainstream.
