420 with CNW – How to Avoid Germs While Consuming Marijuana

One thing the coronavirus pandemic has brought to light is that we could do so much better in terms of hygiene. As we all take precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, germs and any sort of dirt have become enemy number one, with people observing a level of hygiene never seen before. That mindset should also be applied when consuming cannabis.

Now, the medical benefits of cannabis have been discussed in great detail. You get a reprieve from anxiety, insomnia, and chronic pain among a plethora of other conditions, but what many don’t know is that cannabis can get very germy. Moose Labs, a Los Angeles-based cannabis accessories company co-founded by brothers Dan and Jay Rush recently ran a study to quantify just how germy cannabis can get, and the results were quite interesting.

“We found that the average public toilet is cleaner than the average bong that we tested, and that’s horrifyingly disgusting. The average gas station toilet seat has about 900 bacteria per square inch, whereas the average bong has 3,000 bacteria per square inch,” says Jay Rush.

Given the times we’re in, maintaining a high level of hygiene ought to be a priority. Here are a few tips to avoid germs the next time you consume cannabis.

Keep your equipment clean. Pipes, bongs and dab rigs can accumulate an astonishing amount of bacteria, and cleaning them regularly is the best way to prevent this. The most common method is using rubbing alcohol (99% isopropyl) and coarse sea salt, but there are several other methods that work. On top of bacteria, unclean equipment significantly hinders the flavor of your cannabis.

Use smoking accessories, especially if you participate in a lot of communal smoking sessions. The MouthPeace created by Moose Labs, for instance, is a universal smoking accessory that fits into bowls, pipes, and vapes. It acts as a barrier between your mouth and any bacteria on the equipment, and it also filters out the amount of dirt and residue going into your lungs. With accessories like these, you’ll be able to take part in a communal session with little worry about germs.

Be proactive. Prevention is better than cure every time, so limiting your germs intake should be your first priority. Moose Labs offered 200 participants free hits from a dab rig, and they found that only 5% of the participants used the free alcohol wipes offered to cleanse the piece before smoking. Being mindful of how many people have taken a hit before you will show you the level of precaution you need to take, whether it’s wiping down the piece or whipping out a smoking accessory.

You could also lightly run a flame over the piece but Moose Labs found that it wasn’t as effective as rubbing alcohol. “We tested a lighter pass and T-shirt wipe and both of them reduced bacteria, but not to a sanitary level, more like from 1,800 to 1,100 bacteria per square inch.”

This information regarding how important hygiene should be among cannabis consumers is likely to be very helpful to industry players like Plus Products Inc. (CSE: PLUS) (OTCQX: PLPRF) who would like to do everything they can to ensure that their customers are safe while using cannabis products.

CannabisNewsBreaks – Why Round Meadow Holdings Corp. Is ‘One to Watch’

Comprised of a synergistic portfolio of cannabis service companies, Round Meadow Holdings (“RMH”) is committed to supporting the evolving cannabis industry. A recent article discussing the company reads, “Historically, when industries such as cannabis experienced growth spurts, many people rushed to find their position within that space. As the competitive landscape increased, so did the velocity of product offerings. For instance, during the Gold Rush of 1849, most successes were found among companies that provided services to the miners rather than with the miners themselves. Levi Strauss and a few well-known hotel chains and banks know all too well the outcome of offering goods and services to an exploding industry. . . . RMH recognizes numerous opportunities within the current marketplace and has defined its strategy for success in the evolving cannabis industry. At the core of this strategy is a portfolio of synergistic brands, including Canna Paid, Budtender Awards, BudtenderSelect.com and High Lifestyle. These separate verticals are designed to provide relevant and much-needed services to the cannabis industry. They are interconnected and supportive of each other, strengthening their positions as a whole.”

420 with CNW – 4 Ways the Coronavirus May Affect the Marijuana Industry

It’s official, the novel Coronavirus is now a pandemic. The virus first appeared in Wuhan, China at the close of 2019, and as of now, over 180,000 people have been infected. As the virus swept through China, to Europe, the U.S. and finally Africa, one thing has been pretty clear. Things will get worse before they get better, and recognizing that fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised the virus’s threat level.

The loss of life has been immense, with the virus leaving over 4,000 people dead. The fact that it is extremely communicable hasn’t helped, and numerous governments have had to order lockdowns to curb its spread. This, however, has wreaked havoc on the world economy, and experts say the situation will only get worse. The cannabis industry hasn’t been spared either. For starters, it has been subject to the following;

Supply Chain Disruptions. China was hit hard by the virus, and numerous regions effectively went into shutdown mode. And since China is a low-cost producer, the effects have been felt across a lot of industries. The vaping segment, for instance, relies heavily on China for parts, and a lot of firms have found themselves running out of supplies with no avenues for replenishment.

A large portion of growing equipment such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning products, and LED bulbs also come from China.

Canceled trade shows. For an industry as young as the cannabis sector, trade shows are one of the few places firms can show off their products and network. However, these shows are often attended by thousands of people, and while that’s awesome when you’re looking for buyers or investors, it is a liability in the times.  For instance, the CannaTech Medical Cannabis Innovation Conference was postponed until June 15-16, while the Natural Products Expo West was postponed indefinitely.

Reduced Tourism. One of the first responses to the Coronavirus was limiting flights to affected countries. However, as the virus spread, more and more countries started closing their borders. This, coupled with the lockdown and self-isolation orders, has severely impacted the tourism sector. Cities like Las Vegas rely heavily on tourism, and cannabis stores like Planet 13 Holdings are sure to see reduced sales in the coming weeks.

Major lockdowns and quarantines may be down the road if the virus keeps spreading. Countries like Italy are a good example of how things might turn out, and this won’t be good for most businesses. And if more people and infected and forced to self-quarantine, it could lead to a shutdown of most retail shops except the most essential ones.

At the moment, the best we can do is hunker down, take the proper precautions and wait the pandemic out. Industry actors like Champignon Brands Inc. (CSE: SHRM) may be hoping that the pandemic quickly comes to an end given that the marijuana industry already had its own growing pains.

420 with CNW – Coronavirus Fears Prompt Michigan to Temporarily Allow Curbside Marijuana Deliveries

More than two months after the Coronavirus appeared in Wuhan, China, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the virus a pandemic. With more than 180,000 infected and over 4,000 left dead in its wake, the virus doesn’t seem to be taking a break anytime soon. In fact, governments have started making contingency plans for the worst case scenarios, with experts predicting that up to 70% of Americans may be infected if no treatment is found.

As numerous states go into shutdown mode, people have been stocking up for an indeterminate period of self-isolation. Everything from non-perishable foods to cleaning supplies and drugs, everything is game. Michigan has started allowing curbside pickup at marijuana stores on a temporary basis in light of this prevailing scare.

The state has about 15 recreational marijuana stores and 66 medical marijuana dispensaries, and the Marijuana Regulatory Agency has encouraged medical marijuana patients and recreational customers to place delivery orders when possible.

The agency is lifting a requirement that anyone placing a marijuana order have an ID with the same address as the delivery location, and it has promised to process delivery service license requests for already licensed businesses within 48 hours.

“During a crisis like this, you really get to see if state governments are prepared or not, and in this case, our department is absolutely shining,” says Robin Schneider, Michigan Cannabis Industry Association Director. She also heads a marijuana trade organization with 200 licensed members, and she states that her members have asked for the ability to make curbside sales outside their businesses to limit personal contact.

“The curbside pickup is going to make a world of difference in order to protect the workers in this process,” she says.

“Customers may complete an order including payment for their product via the internet or they may place their order once parked at the facility. An employee from the licensed facility or adult-use establishment is permitted to complete the sales transaction by interacting with the customer in the parking lot and recording the necessary information into the statewide monitoring system,” states the Marijuana Regulatory Agency.

According to Schneider, marijuana sales have been spiking as retail establishments shut down. “There has been an increase of customers who are stockpiling both medical and recreational cannabis and sales are definitely up, just like other essentials.”

The measure allowing curbside pickups is temporary, and it will stay in place until the agency terminates it.

Experts believe that industry players like Round Meadow Holdings Corp. and SinglePoint Inc. (OTCQB: SING) are likely to welcome this proactive step taken by the authorities in Michigan amidst the Coronavirus crisis.
