HempNewsBreaks – The Green Organic Dutchman Holdings Ltd. (TSX: TGOD) (OTCQX: TGODF) and Caliper Foods Report Positive Results from Proprietary Water-Soluble Cannabinoid Technology Study

Cannabis-focused research and development company The Green Organic Dutchman Holdings (TSX: TGOD) (OTCQX: TGODF), a leading producer of premium certified organic cannabis, and Caliper Foods (formerly Stillwater Foods), a best-in-class provider of water-soluble cannabinoid products, today announced the results of a preliminary human pharmacokinetic (“PK”) study . The PK study was conducted on Caliper CBD, Caliper Foods’ proprietary tasteless and odorless powder that is water soluble and can be added to almost any food or beverage. Early data shows that Caliper CBD demonstrated a 4.5-fold higher observed total bioavailability and faster onset with higher concentrations achieved, both at 15 minutes, compared to maximum concentration achieved at 45 minutes with a CBD in oil formulation. “We are delighted with these PK results as they confirm the enhanced bioavailability and consistent absorption rates of our proprietary ingredient technology, which can infuse both CBD and THC. This study confirms that consumers absorb 4.5 times more CBD with Caliper CBD than with CBD in MCT oil,” Caliper Foods Director of R&D Keith Woelfel said in the news release. “Our R&D team is working closely with TGOD on the next phase of the clinical study, which, if it confirms the PK results in additional product forms, will make Caliper Foods’ and TGOD’s product suites highly differentiated in terms of substantiated quality.”

420 with CNW – LA Launches Crackdown on Marijuana Black Market

Recently, the city of Los Angeles launched a major crackdown on illegal marijuana activities that include cultivation, extraction, manufacturing and delivery. The city has a penalty of six months’ incarceration and a fine of $1,000 for those convicted of engaging in any unlicensed commercial cannabis activity.

LA City Attorney Mike Feuer is quoted as saying that that his office was taking the enforcement action because it wasn’t good for some entities to go through the entire process of getting licensed while others come and distort the industry without playing by the same rules.

Currently, the city has about 165 licensed businesses that are engaged in retailing and delivering legal marijuana. However, many more continue to flout the rules and operate in the shadows, a problem that has persisted over the years.

Some industry players and activists have started to become frustrated by this unending cat and mouse game with black market operators and they are suggesting that the penalties for commercial marijuana activity in California aren’t stiff enough and an amendment should be made to the law so that serious or repeat offenders are charged under federal law which carries stiffer penalties.

For example, under federal marijuana laws, anyone found engaging in commercial marijuana activity that involves 100 kilos of cannabis is liable to imprisonment for up to 40 years and a fine that can be as high as $25 million.

These activists and industry players point to “Project Exile” started in Virginia in 1997 to stamp out gun-related crime within the state as an example. In that project, felons found with guns weren’t charged in state courts where the sentences were lighter.

Instead, they went before federal courts and received stiffer penalties which came with denying the suspects bail until their cases were heard and concluded. Felons couldn’t be released until they had served their entire sentence and they were jailed at least 1,000 miles away from the county where they lived. Library, commissary and mail privileges were also off the table for such convicts.

“Project Exile” was effective in reducing gun-related homicides and other gun-related crimes in Virginia, and a modification of this tactic is being suggested as a way to deal a decisive blow to the marijuana black market in California.

It isn’t certain whether the prosecutors in California would agree and come up with the necessary measures to implement this strategy, but experts think industry participants like Cannabis Strategic Ventures Inc. (OTCQB: NUGS) and Canopy Rivers Inc. (TSX.V: RIV) (OTC: CNPOF) would welcome any measure that gets rid of the illegal cannabis industry players so that consumers only access licensed products that have undergone rigorous testing.

420 with CNW – Mississippians Likely to Vote on Medical Cannabis After Ballot Measure Signatures Are Submitted

Voters in Mississippi are likely to be given a chance to cast their vote to decide whether medical marijuana should be legalized in the state after a group of activists submitted a list containing more than the minimum number of voter signatures required to put the matter on the 2020 ballot.

Though the signatures that were submitted on Wednesday this week still have to be verified by the Mississippi Secretary of State, Mississippians for Compassionate Care (MCC), the group behind the campaign to put the matter before voters, are confident that all is set after they submitted lists containing in excess of 214,000 voter signatures.

Out of that total number of signatures, clerks in different counties have already certified at least 105,686 signatures. This number alone exceeds the minimum number of voter signatures required by 20,000.

The office of the secretary of state confirmed that the medical marijuana petition had been filed and the process of verifying the signatures had started so that the department would be ready to submit that petition to the state legislature on their first day of business in 2020 if everything is as it should be regarding the signatures collected.

Hitting the target number in terms of voter signatures isn’t the only requirement that the activists had to meet. They also had to make sure that they obtained certain voter signature numbers from voters in the different congressional districts within the state if the petition was to stand a chance of making it onto the ballot.

The MCC is confident that all those requirements were met since the campaigners received overwhelming support from the people as the group collected signatures.

If the measure is approved by voters during the 2020 election, patients suffering from a variety of debilitating conditions, including cancer and chronic pain, would be eligible to use medical marijuana. The petition has a list of 22 conditions for which patients can apply to be certified and start using medical marijuana.

The patients would be allowed to purchase and possess up to 2.5 ounces of medical marijuana products within a 14-day timeframe before they can purchase more products.

Collecting signatures to put the matter on the ballot is one thing, and getting the majority of voters to support the measure is another thing altogether. However, the activists are confident that with opinion polls showing 77 percent support among Mississippians, the medical marijuana ballot measure is likely to sail through.

Before that happens, the Mississippians for Compassionate Care activists have to contend with opposition from the Board of Health in the state and from Gov. Phil Bryant (R).

Experts are in agreement that marijuana industry players like Willow Biosciences Inc. (CSE: WLLW) and Youngevity International Inc. (NASDAQ: YGYI) will be hoping that the ballot measure delivers medical marijuana to the state so that patients can have more options as they look for remedies for their specific ailments.

CannabisNewsBreaks – Lexaria Bioscience Corp. (CSE: LXX) (OTCQX: LXRP) Reports Positive Findings from Master Collaborative Research Agreement

Biotechnology company and global drug delivery platform innovator Lexaria Bioscience Corp. (CSE: LXX) (OTCQX: LXRP) recently announced the successful completion of its master collaborative research agreement with the National Research Council of Canada (“NRC”) focused on technical aspects of DehydraTECH(TM)’s drug-delivery processes (http://cnw.fm/gt79T). An article further discussing the company reads, “Lexaria also noted that the National Research Council of Canada study discovered the remarkable stability of DehydraTECH technology, even under highly acidic conditions. ‘Other formulation technologies by third parties that have not been tested for pH stability cannot be relied upon to deliver stable quantities of the API in question within an acidic beverage,’ the news release states. ‘Since mildly acidic formulas are used in the vast majority of beverages sold in North America today, pH stability testing is a necessary aspect of safely delivering cannabinoids within popular beverage formats, and Lexaria’s technology is now proven capable of doing so.’”

HempNewsBreaks – Sugarmade Inc. (SGMD) Ideally Positioned to Benefit During U.S.-China Tariff Trade War

Sugarmade (OTCQB: SGMD), one of the largest publicly traded hydroponics supply companies moving into the industrial hemp space, currently holds a strong position as American farmers pursue refuge from the low prices and decreased sales created by the ongoing U.S.-China trade war. An article discussing the company reads, “In the wake of the trade war between the United States and China, hemp has become a refuge for American farmers suffering from the resulting lower prices and sinking sales, as detailed in a recent CannabisNewsWire article (http://cnw.fm/MaWv3). The uncertain trade relationship between the two countries has created an especially strong market for companies such as Sugarmade that are suppliers of equipment to hemp cultivators. This is particularly true in the markets seeing the fastest growth in hemp farming, such as Western Kentucky and Tennessee. SGMD is not in the hemp-cultivation business itself, but it has a business model of supporting and supplying hemp-industry cultivators, among others.”
