CannabisNewsBreaks – Golden Triangle Ventures Inc. (GTVH) Releases Shareholder Letter from Napa Wine Brands CEO

Golden Triangle Ventures (OTC: GTVH), a multifaceted consulting company pursuing ventures in the health, entertainment and technology industries, has shared a letter from Arron Johnson, CEO of Napa Wine Brands, written to shareholders. The letter includes an update on the company’s Food & Wine Division activities and outlines the division’s corporate strategy. In the letter, Johnson notes that Napa Wine Brands was recently acquired by Golden Triangle Ventures; consequently, the two companies are working to launch many brands and products within Napa Wine Brands. Johnson also noted the company’s acquisition of The Lodge Winery & Olive Oil Co., an established wine brand that produces award-winning wines. Johnson noted that less than half of the wineries in the Northern California wine country have tasting rooms or facilities open to the public, and The Lodge Winery & Olive Oil Company will be one of them. In the letter, Johnson also observes that the company doesn’t own any vineyard but rather buys raw materials from contracted suppliers; that its wine making and bottling facility is currently in Napa Valley; and that its unique outdoorsman’s “niche” opens the door for additional sales and PR through the many outdoor organizations. “We also offer custom labeling for weddings and special events,” said Napa Wine Brands CEO Arron Johnson in the press release. “We’ve already been asked to produce specially labeled wines for several outdoor organizations for their annual dinners, fundraising auctions, etc. At the Bass Pro Shops Hall of Fame event, our wine was auctioned and brought not only the highest bids but was also highly rated and liked by the top executives who were able to have a few glasses of it at the event. The PR company for Bass Pro Shops and many other outdoor themed organizations, magazines, online publications, and venues wanted to tell the world about our wines and our story, again, because of our uniqueness. Due to the Covid shutdowns though, much of this was put on hold until events, stores and other venues open up again, which are just now starting to happen. We’ve been fairly dormant since the Covid shutdowns, but that’s about to rapidly change.”

420 with CNW — Could Amazon’s Warming Up to Cannabis Signal a Federal Policy Change?

Since the emergence of the state-legal cannabis industry, there has been a pointed effort to keep “big business” out of the nascent sector. Most cannabis legislations have prioritized small businesses and equity applicants who were victims of cannabis prohibition in a bid to keep large corporations from coming in and taking over. But these established market players may just be what the industry needs, especially when it comes to federal legalization, and a recent announcement by e-commerce giant Amazon may spark the federal change cannabis players have been anxiously waiting for.

At the start of the month, the American-based retailer made a twofold announcement: it would stop testing its employees for cannabis use, and more importantly, its public policy support team would throw its support behind the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (“MORE”) Act. While halting marijuana drug tests will go a long way in reducing the social stigma cannabis users face, especially for medical marijuana patients, it is the second announcement that may have major ramifications for the cannabis industry moving forward.

The MORE Act, which was sponsored by Rep. Jerrod Nadler, would remove cannabis containing more than 0.3% THC (the main psychoactive compound) from the list of Controlled Substances. Additionally, it would expunge the records of individuals with prior nonviolent, cannabis-related charges as well as create social equity programs to give communities that were disproportionately affected by the war on drugs a leg up in the sector.

So how exactly will Amazon’s declaration aid the young but lucrative marijuana industry?

By lobbying, that’s how. Like it or not, big business packs quite a wallop, and Amazon is one of the largest corporations not only in America but also in the world. By throwing its weight around cannabis bills, whether it’s the MORE Act or a banking bill, and lobbying for their passage, the retailer can do more for cannabis at the federal level than nearly all cannabis players combined ever could. When companies such as Amazon and Uber state their support for federal cannabis legislation, it legitimizes the economic potential of what is still a controversial industry in the eyes of the policymakers in Washington, DC.

Not only do these large players in the space have the ability to sit down with these individuals and make their cases, unlike the small to moderately sized businesses that currently make up a large portion of the industry, but they will also show lawmakers that the entities growing, producing and distributing marijuana are known and trusted. That’s not to say that these corporations don’t have their fair share of questionable practices. Additionally, it doesn’t mean that smaller businesses will be completely edged out of the market.

Large-scale commercial producers could coexist side by side with smaller craft producers like they have in the beer scene. However, lawmakers must first pass federal legislation, and corporations such Amazon can help that happen.

Whatever the force that triggers a marijuana policy change at the federal level, sector players including Sonoma Biologics Corp. would get some relief from having to navigate the complexities associated with the variance between state and federal laws.

420 with CNW — Legislative Failure Prompts Mexican Supreme Court to Take Steps

The Supreme Court of Mexico is taking steps towards putting an end to cannabis prohibition on a national scale after the legislature failed to enact the change in policy. This comes almost three years after the same court declared that the prohibition of personal cannabis cultivation and possession was unconstitutional and ordered legislators to enact a change. While legislators did advance legalization measures after this, no bill was approved.

In a press release issued earlier last week, #RegulationPorLaPas, a body that advocates for an end to marijuana prohibition, stated that the steps taken by the Supreme Court grew the responsibility of the legislature in this matter, noting that it was mandatory for the legislative process to be continued so that the work that had been put into the effort to date could help guarantee the rights of citizenship. Justice Norma Lucía Piña Hernández of the High Court also filed a declaration of unconstitutionality with regard to the country’s marijuana laws.

For marijuana prohibition to be overthrown, the ministers on the Supreme Court will have to vote in favor of approving the declaration of unconstitutionality. While some may view this move from the court as abrupt, it has been a long time coming.

The Supreme Court ruled that cannabis criminalization unconstitutionally infringed adults’ rights in October 2018 and set a preliminary deadline for legislators to change policies in a year. Thereafter, it extended the deadlines several more times, moving it from April 2020 to December 2020 then again to April 30 of this year.

Many had hoped that the measure would have been approved during this final session, as the Senate had already given its approval before the Chamber of Deputies also made some amendments then gave its approval, after which Senate committees also approved the revised measure.

Under the measure, individuals ages 18 and above would have been permitted to grow up to six plants for personal use; in addition, adult-aged individuals can also buy and possess no more than 28 grams of cannabis. Changes made to the regulations by the deputies included adjustments that govern licensing and commercial market policies and the cannabis market’s regulatory structure. Additionally, the deputies amended the measure so that, instead of establishing an independent regulatory body that would oversee implementation of the cannabis program and its licensing, that authority was given to the National Commission Against Addictions, which is already in existence.

Furthermore, changes also increased penalties for unauthorized possession of huge amounts of marijuana and added clauses that prevented forest land from being converted to cannabis growing areas.

It would be interesting to get a comment from established sector players in North America such as Hero Technologies Inc. (OTC: HENC) regarding the regional implications of the upcoming legalization of cannabis in Mexico.

420 with CNW — Marijuana Cuts Migraine Pain, Headache by Almost Half, New Study Finds

A lot of people who have used cannabis regularly report that it has pain-relieving effects. But since cannabis has been illegal and intensely policed for such a long time, researchers have barely been able to conduct any research into its alleged health benefits. However, with more than 30 states legalizing cannabis in some form, the controversial drug is finally coming out from under the yoke of prohibition, and this has allowed scientists to take at a closer look at its medical capabilities.

A recent study, which was published in the “Journal of Pain” has confirmed what many cannabis users have known for years: marijuana has the ability to effectively manage pain. Specifically, researchers from Washington State University found that cannabis can reduce migraine and headache pain by half. On top of that, it does so without causing “overuse headaches,” which is when pharmaceutical painkillers actually worsen the patients’ headaches over time with continued use.

Led by Carrie Cuttler, an assistant professor of psychology at Washington State University, the researchers studied “big data” provided by the Strainprint app, which captured data from patients about their symptoms before and after using medical cannabis. More than 1,300 patients suffering from headaches submitted their information in real time, using the application over 12,200 times. Additionally, 650 patients with migraines also tracked changes in the severity of their conditions, using the app more than 7,400 times.

The inhaled medical marijuana, which the patients sourced from producers and distributors in Canada, reduced the migraine severity by 49.6% and headache severity by 47.3%. According to Cuttler, she and her team approached the study in an “ecological way,” looking at actual medical marijuana patients who used whole-plant cannabis to address headaches and migraines in their own homes and environments. Since the archival data provided by the Strainprint app was so immense, it allowed them the researchers to make accurate generalizations to estimate how most patients who used medical cannabis to address headaches and migraines fared.

Although they found no evidence that cannabis led to overuse headaches, which are often caused by regular use of pharmaceutical painkillers, the researchers did notice that the patients used larger doses of cannabis over time. This may be an indication that they developed a tolerance to cannabis the longer they used it and required larger doses to achieve the same effect. They also found that 90% of men reported more sessions to reduce their pain compared to 89.1% of women.

Cannabis concentrates such as cannabis oil were more effective in terms of reducing the severity of headaches and migraines compared to cannabis flower. Surprisingly, the data also indicated that the levels of THC (delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol), whether higher or lower, did not have a significant impact on pain reduction. As such, it seems that the other less-studied cannabinoids (cannabis produces more than 100 cannabinoids), as well as terpenes and other compounds, may work together and cause a positive effect on marijuana’s pain-relieving capabilities.

However, Cuttler acknowledges the WSU study had several limitations, including the fact that it used data from a self-selected group of patients and had no placebo control group, and that more research is needed. Still, the study is a step in the right direction.

As more studies uncover the therapeutic uses of different cannabis compounds, the extracts and concentrates manufactured by companies such as Pure Extracts Technologies Corp. (CSE: PULL) (OTC: PRXTF) are likely to find their way into many novel products as people look for additional ways to get their dose of medical cannabis.

420 with CNW — Researchers Develop Peptide That Allows Medical Cannabis to Alleviate Pain Without Inducing Side Effects

Researchers have created a peptide that can allow THC to combat pain without inducing the side effects it causes, as observed in mice. This could potentially bring relief to many individuals living with chronic pain and who have no access to medical marijuana.

Data from the CDC shows that nearly 20% of grownups in the United States suffered from chronic pain in the year 2019.

Opioids are the primary medication prescribed for severe pain management and are effective. However, they are easily addictive which has prompted many physicians to stop prescribing them, leaving patients who suffer from chronic pain with fewer options.

The study findings were published in the American Chemical Society’s Journal of Medicinal Chemistry.

Prior studies have shown that medical cannabis can be useful in alleviating pain from cancer, neuropathy and migraines, as well as other conditions. However, the side effects observed present issues for the herb’s extensive use as a therapeutic.

Before the study, scientists had discovered a pair of peptides that interrupt interactions between a receptor that binds a neurotransmitter which regulates memory, learning among other cognitive functions as well as serotonin and another receptor that THC targets.

During their study, the researchers injected the peptides into the brains of mice, noting that some of the mice used had lesser memory problems that had been brought about by the THC.

The team, which was made up of researchers like David Andreu and Rafael Maldonado, worked to enhance these peptides by making them orally active, more stable, smaller and able to cross the brain-blood barrier.

To do this, the scientists developed optimized peptides that could still bind to receptors among other things but were smaller in length, in comparison with the original ones. They also used the data obtained from molecular dynamic simulations to improve the peptide sequences for stability, enhanced cell entry and capacity to cross the blood-brain barrier.

After this, the scientists orally administered the peptide to the mice and also injected them with THC, before testing the mice’s memory and pain threshold.

The researchers discovered that the mice that received the optimized peptide and the THC formulation had their pain alleviated in addition to demonstrating improved memory, in comparison with mice that had been treated with the THC formulation alone.

They also found that multiple treatments using the peptide didn’t elicit an immune response. The researchers’ discoveries suggest that the optimized peptide was an ideal candidate for decreasing the cognitive side effects from marijuana-based pain management.

Such studies confirm that the people who have been buying medical marijuana products manufactured by firms like Grapefruit USA Inc. (OTCQB: GPFT) were not disguised recreational users but instead had real medical concerns they needed to address.

HempNewsBreaks – HempFusion Wellness Inc. (TSX: CBD.U) (OTCQX: CBDHF) (FWB: 8OO) Positioned for Success in 2021 and Beyond

HempFusion Wellness (TSX: CBD.U) (OTCQX: CBDHF) (FWB: 8OO), a leader in the health and wellness cannabidiol (“CBD”) industry, is keen on expanding its international distribution channels, demonstrating its compliance with regulatory standards for hemp-derived products worldwide, and seeking to expand access points for CBD. The company’s HempFusion USA, through Probulin Probiotics LLC, sells its products in about 4,000 retail locations in all 50 U.S. States. “Probulin’s network for probiotics sales has proved useful for helping the company gain an entry point in marketplaces hesitant to consider CBD,” reads a recent article. In March, the company announced Probulin’s entry into the Asian market through Tmall Global and, in April, announced its products had received Tmall’s conditional approval. HempFusion also sells its Probulin products in Mexico, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, and Ireland with expectations of entering India and the United Kingdom. According to an April operational update by the company, “COVID and continued lack of clarity from the FDA related to official regulatory guidance for CBD used in dietary supplements, foods and beverages has made 2020 a challenging year. However, these challenges have led to strategic changes, establishing the foundation for HempFusion to succeed in 2021 and beyond.”
