420 with CNW — Why Large Companies Are Scrambling to Enter Cannabis Drinks Space

The cannabis drinks segment has been steadily growing in popularity for the past couple of years. As the cannabis market has matured, players in the cannabis space have been developing a wide variety of products in a bid to capture a part of the massive cannabis market. Cannabis-infused beverages are the latest entrant in the cannabis market. Although the space is only a few years old, the global cannabis beverage market is already projected to be worth $2 billion by 2026.

Some of the biggest beverage companies in the world are betting big on cannabis-infused beverages. In March, Canadian cannabis company Canopy Growth, once the largest cannabis company in the world, launched its own brand of flavored CBD beverages called Quatreau in the United States. Six months later, Canopy Growth partnered with New York-based Karna Water to launch CBD-infused water called Karma CBD Water, available at 25,000 retailers across America. In August, American-Canadian brewing company Molson Coors expanded Verywell, its CBD beverage line under Truss USA, a joint venture with HEXO USA Inc. to 17 states.

Michael Bronstein, president of the American Trade Association for Cannabis, says both cannabis companies and mainstream beverage companies have shown considerable interest in cannabis beverages. A Cannabis Beverage Council launched by the association this year has even attracted the attention of Adolphus Busch V, the great-great-grandson of the founder of brewing company Anheuser Busch. Adolphus Busch V is the founder of Colorado-based ABV Cannabis.

Industry analysts say the segment’s popularity is due to three factors: demand for alcohol alternatives amid a generational decline in alcohol consumption, technological advancements that have significantly improved the quality of cannabis drinks, and fewer places allowing people to legally smoke or vape. According to Canopy Growth and Molson Coors, the companies are currently focusing their attention on drinks infused with hemp-derived CBD since THC beverages are still federally prohibited. As the public becomes more aware of CBD’s medical potential, demand for CBD-infused beverages is sure to increase.

A joint survey by Chicago-based company Aclara Research and Ipsos found that although cannabis beverages aren’t used as frequently as edibles, flower or vapes, people are increasingly using them in social situations.

The demand for cannabis beverages actually makes sense, analysts say, when you realize that alcohol consumption has been declining steadily over the past few decades. Beer only makes up 12.5% of generation Z’s alcohol consumption compared to 25% for millennials and 50% for baby boomers and generation X. With business drying up, mainstream beverage companies are casting their nets out for the next big thing.

And as those companies enter this coveted segment, they will have to contend with already established cannabis drinks companies such as BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC) that are making their presence felt among consumers.

420 with CNW — Poll Shows Most Americans Support Cannabis Legalization

Over the past couple of years, public opinion on cannabis has seen a significant shift. After decades of prohibition, anti-cannabis rhetoric and harsh sentencing, plenty of people didn’t look too favorably on the controversial plant. But as more states have launched medical cannabis markets and marijuana’s possible benefits have come to light, public support for cannabis legalization has been on the rise. This has been reflected in a couple of surveys, with a recent poll by Rasmussen Reports finding that a majority of Americans support the national legalization of cannabis.

More specifically, 62% of the survey participants said that they were in favor of national legalization. Interestingly, 54% of Republicans said they supported legalization compared to 68% of Democrats and 62% of those who claimed another political affiliation. When asked whether they thought legalization should be left to the federal, state or local authorities, 47% said they favored the federal government, 32% felt legalization should be a state decision, and 11% preferred to have local authorities in charge. In addition, 53% of the participants said that they lived in a state with a legal cannabis market, and 38% lived in states that didn’t allow cannabis.

Furthermore, 50% of the respondents said that they had smoked the substance in the past while 45% reported that they hadn’t. Most of the respondents who support cannabis legalization in the country skewed younger. Only those aged 65 and older (40%) and those with incomes of more than $200,000 did not report majority support for national cannabis reform. This is the second poll over the past week to demonstrate the support for cannabis legalization among the general public. A Gallup survey released a few days ago revealed that 68% of adults in America backed legalizing marijuana, similar to what a Gallup poll found in November 2020.

Lawmakers are currently hard at work on drafting federal legalization bills. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden and Senator Cory Booker are working on a bill that would federally deschedule cannabis, and Republican Rep. Nancy Mace is set to unveil a bill that would federally legalize and tax marijuana to the House.

In September the House Judiciary Committee approved the Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment and Expungement (“MORE”) Act a week after it voted in favor of a defense bill that contained language protecting banks that work with businesses in the state-legal cannabis sector.

Despite all the public support for cannabis legalization and efforts by lawmakers to craft cannabis reform, Biden still doesn’t support broad legalization. He prefers modest reform that would decriminalize cannabis at the federal level, legalize medical use and grant states the freedom to determine their own cannabis policies.

If federal marijuana law reform is finally implemented, cannabis sector actors such as BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC) will have a more conducive environment within which to operate, as well as a much bigger market to serve.

420 with CNW — New Cannabis Users Show Soft Spot for Beverages, Edibles

America’s cannabis industry has achieved a great deal despite its young age. Initially, smoking cannabis flower was the most common consumption method, but as the industry matured, cannabis companies started developing alternative marijuana products. Customers can now buy a wide variety of cannabis-infused edibles and concentrates, which were a lot safer than flower because they do not involve smoking. However, if the cannabis market has proved one thing, it’s that it is constantly in flux, with customer preferences evolving and companied coming up with new products to meet demand.

These days, edibles and beverages are winning over more new users compared to other consumption methods. This is partly because consumers are turning away from flower and vapes due to the respiratory risks they present, industry observers say. Dominic Cundari, general manager at Michigan-based ArborSide, says that he sees new users, plenty of them with years of smoking cigarettes behind them. who don’t want to put another combustible in their bodies. Consequently, they have been turning toward edibles, which present a significantly reduced health risk. Despite national trends that skew toward concentrates and flower, Cundari says edibles have been outselling concentrates at his store.

Cannabis-infused beverages have also seen a surge in popularity as customers seek alternatives to alcohol. Beverages are relatively new to the market, mostly because the technology needed to brew consistently smooth cannabis drinks still hasn’t been perfected, and experts say the beverage segment is poised to experience significant growth. Edibles are also looking at a lucrative future, Cundari and other industry players believe, partly due to the ease of use, popular brands, familiarity and new innovations. America’s cannabis space doesn’t have many well-known brands because of strict advertising limitations, but Cundari believes branding will play a major role in attracting and retaining customers.

With Michigan’s recreational cannabis market steadily maturing, more cannabis companies are promoting their products. People are becoming accustomed to seeing these advertisements, says Cundari, and this will help promote their brands and make them more recognizable.

Jeff Finnerty, the head of marketing at Ayr Wellness, a multistate operator based in New York, has also noted the increased customer interest in infused beverages and edibles. Innovations such as nano-emulsification, which allow beverage companies to finally infuse cannabinoids into water, as well as familiarity are partly responsible for this shift, he says. He notes that beverages and edibles are especially popular with new users who may be nervous about smoking or vaping and find beverages and edibles more familiar.

Entities such as BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC) are at the forefront of pushing the path of innovation in the cannabis drinks space; these companies stand to reap major benefits as these drinks carve out a larger share of the total marijuana market.

420 with CNW — Sustainability Drives Cannabis Beverage Makers to Adopt Eco-Friendly Packaging

After more than a century of industrialization, we are finally starting to own up to the repercussions of polluting the environment. The world is heating up to a dangerous degree, disrupting planetary cycles and causing extreme weather conditions around the globe. While the drive for sustainability and renewability didn’t pick up much steam before the 2010s, more and more companies are striving to reduce their carbon footprints as people become more conscious of the environmental effects of their favorite products. America’s state-legal cannabis industry hasn’t been left behind, with players that make cannabis beverages ditching traditional packaging options for ecofriendly alternatives.

Consumers, especially from the younger generations, are more cognizant of climate change, and this is frequently reflected in their buying habits. Katie Simmons, marketing director for Pactiv Evergreen, says consumers are increasingly turning their attention to healthy, sustainable products, and this extends to beverage packaging.

Recyclability and renewability are top priorities when it comes to beverage packaging considering how wasteful and harmful traditional beverage packaging such as glass and plastic can be. As a whole, the beverage industry is changing to stay ahead of both consumer demand and legislation, according to Peter Gonclaves, vice president of marketing at Tetra Pak.

Cannabis beverages are a relatively new segment of the marijuana industry, partly because the technology needed to make high-quality cannabis-infused drinks has taken time to perfect. Even so, the global cannabis beverages market is projected to be worth $2 billion by 2026, and companies that hope to succeed will have to make sustainability a major part of their plans. Not only will this allow them to attract environment-conscious customers in droves, but it will also help them reduce their carbon footprints and meet increasingly strict emission standards. Using sustainable packaging is an effective way to do this because it reduces the amount of overall waste at the source and lessens the strain recycling facilities are under. Tetra Pak, for instance, has launched a program that develops cartons using carbon-neutral, fully renewable, and fully recyclable plant-based materials.

Brent Haynam, commercial engineering manager for Scholle IPN, notes that sustainable packaging doesn’t just further recycling goals. “Bag-in-box” and pouch packaging for beverages can reduce source material weight by as much as 90%, he says. For instance, a player in the wine industry can ship more than 100,000 empty bag-in-box packages compared to only 34,000 glass bottles in a truck, resulting in significant savings as well as helping to preserve the environment.

Companies such as BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC) that walk the talk of environmental consciousness are set to reap big as less ecologically responsible companies are gradually shunned by consumers.

420 with CNW — FDA to Use Reddit to Gather Information on CBD, Other Cannabinoids

The Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) recently announced that it planned to use different sources of data such as Reddit to better understand public health issues surrounding the use of cannabis derivatives, including delta-8 THC and CBD. In its published report, the FDA explained that it needed information about the potential adverse events and safety issues associated with FDA-regulated products, which include cannabis-derived products, commonly referred to as CDPs.

The agency also revealed that it needed data on the general patterns of emerging trends and product use so that it could deploy its limited resources effectively and quickly. This comes at a time when the CDP market is growing at a rapid pace, significantly outpacing the advancements made in science.

The agency believes that new approaches to identifying safety signals using rigorous analytical methods and different data sources will significantly contribute to the agency’s ability to respond to rapidly evolving product areas such as the cannabis-derived products market. The FDA also revealed that there are a series of projects in its feasibility assessment phase, one of which involves viewing consumer-generated content such as Reddit posts in order to determine issues that aren’t easily captured through conventional systems.

A separate project would entail comparing CBD product samples from the FDA database with certificates of analysis, in order to identify any issues with quality or inconsistencies. In addition to this, the FDA plans to develop a system that will find usage patterns and safety signals linked to emerging cannabis-derived products in real time. This includes a cannabinoid known as delta-8 THC, which the FDA warned people about because the agency has not yet evaluated the effectiveness or safety of the substance.

Other compounds the FDA is interested in learning more about include CBG (cannabigerol), THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin), CBN (cannabinol) and delta-10 THC (delta-10 tetrahydrocannabinol).

At the start of this year, the FDA had announced that it would be taking the necessary steps required to fill the gaps in research on the effectiveness and safety of CBD. The agency explained that it was focused on improving CBD product identification, helping to develop a consumer register for CBD products, increasing product sampling in relation to reports of adverse effects, and assessing the best strategies for quality monitoring and safety of different types of CBD products.

In 2020, the agency released draft guidelines to streamline approvals for generic CBD medications. The FDA was also mandated under the appropriations bill to present an update on its regulatory approach to CBD. It provided the update in March 2020.

It would benefit the entire cannabis industry including sector actors such as BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC) if such data collection results in clear regulatory guidelines for the CBD market and other related sectors.

CannabisNewsBreaks – BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC) Eyes Opportunity in Largely Untapped Market

BevCanna Enterprises (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC), a diversified health and wellness beverage and natural products company, recently announced a series of new corporate developments designed to further broaden its commercial prospects. Among these, BevCanna recently entered into a sales service agreement with Velvet Management Inc., Canada’s leading cannabis sales agency. In addition, the company signed multiple product purchase agreements with the British Columbia Liquor Distribution Branch (‘BCLDB’), a testament to BevCanna’s rapidly expanding distribution network across Canada. This comes on the heels of two similar agreements with Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (‘AGLC’) and Ontario Cannabis Store (“OCS”). “Functional drinks and drinks based on plant derivatives — including those containing cannabis- or hemp-derived ingredients like cannabidiol (‘CBD’) or tetrahydrocannabinol (‘THC’) — have rapidly established themselves as one of the fastest-growing verticals within the North American beverage industry,” reads a recent article discussing the company’s positioning. The piece also mentions a recent study forecasting the global cannabis drinks sector to triple in value to $5.8 billion by 2024. “While a number of large global brands, including AB InBev and Molson Coors have recently announced plans to produce CBD-containing products, there is no doubt that the cannabis drinks market remains largely untapped.”

420 with CNW — What You Should Know About Marijuana-Infused Drinks, Dosages

The popularity of cannabis and cannabis products has increased significantly in the last few years as more states legalize the herb for various uses. This has also led to the introduction of new cannabis products into the market, including cannabis-infused beverages, which exist in different forms such as kombuchas, tonics, cocktails, juice-based drinks, flavored seltzers and sparkling waters. Consumers who haven’t tried beverages infused with cannabinoids such as THC and CBD are often not sure what dosage may work for them.

Most beverages that contain THC, which is a psychoactive cannabinoid, have varying dosages that can range between 2 mg and 100 mg. On the other hand, infused drinks that contain CBD, which is a nonpsychoactive cannabinoid, have dosages ranging between 15 and 50 mg.

If you would like to try infused drinks but aren’t sure if they are stronger than edibles, it is important to keep in mind that the potency over beverages depends not only on the dosage but also how an individual’s body processes the cannabinoids. Different individuals respond to varying doses differently, based on factors such as body chemistry.

Usually, it takes between 45 minutes to one and a half hours for the body to process an edible, after which the cannabinoid is absorbed into the bloodstream. On the other hand, cannabis-infused beverages only take between 8–15 minutes to take effect, which is why it is important to pay attention to your serving size, especially if you’re new to infused drinks and edibles.

How can you know the right dosage for you?

Individuals who are curious about marijuana and are new to using the substance should start with a beverage with a low dose, perhaps 2 to 4 mg of THC per about 8 ounces of fluid. Ensure that you also consume the drink slowly, which allow you to observe how your body reacts to the cannabinoids as well as how you feel and how long it takes for you to feel the drink’s effects.

If you’re an occasional cannabis consumer, drinks in the 20 mg range may suit your taste. You are also advised to take it slowly and observe how your body reacts to the beverage. Regular marijuana consumers who most likely have a high tolerance to the herb may consume a high-dose drink. Beverages that contain about 100 mg of THC may be ideal.

If you’re a regular consumer of cannabis but are new to high-dose beverages, you are advised to take it slowly and space out your doses. This will afford you the opportunity to observe how your body feels throughout the experience. This is especially vital for individuals taking infused drinks for health and wellness purposes.

Companies such as BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC) have perfected making infused drinks, and the growing popularity of these drinks speaks volumes about the science behind them.

420 with CNW — A Primer on Marijuana Beverages and Reasons Why People Drink Them

Marijuana-infused beverages are the latest cannabis products to see a surge in popularity. With a growing number of states passing cannabis legislation and lawmakers considering federal decriminalization, cannabis is more accessible to the public than ever before. Within a few years of legalization, the sector has become extremely lucrative, generating billions of dollars in revenue partly due to marijuana’s purported medical benefits and the fact that the plant can be infused into a wide variety of products. For the past couple of years, cannabis concentrates and edibles have reigned supreme, with CBD gummies being one of the most searched-for food products in 2018.

Now, another segment of the cannabis market has muscled its way into the mainstream. Although companies have been toying with the idea of cannabis drinks for a couple of years, the technology needed to infuse cannabinoids into water hadn’t been developed. Cannabinoids, the chemical compounds responsible for marijuana’s effects, aren’t water soluble and will not easily mix with water.

Efforts to try and mix the two initially resulted in products that were far inferior to the alcoholic beverages on the market. Lynden Hendersen of Outbound Brewing described an early cannabis drink as tasting like “milk that had been sitting in a refrigerator for two or three months,” saying that it was chunky with an unpleasant consistency and texture. But thanks to nano emulsification technology, cannabis companies can now develop smooth, consistent drinks.

These drinks do not contain high levels of THC, the cannabinoid that makes consumers feel high, with whatever impact they have usually kicking in anywhere from five to 30 minutes after consumption. This makes the products perfect for a drinking session at the bar because users will feel buzzed relatively quickly but not so much that they are very high.

Choosing these drinks is essentially microdosing, which means taking a smaller dose for a limited effect of the drug, and this limited dosing still delivers marijuana’s health benefits. Cannabis drinks are also a safer option compared to alcoholic drinks. Generally, cannabis is much safer than alcohol, with fewer adverse effects on the body and no fatal dose, unlike alcohol. By eliminating the smoking aspect, individuals who drink cannabis in lieu of alcohol have a significantly reduced risk of health issues, including liver cirrhosis.

Furthermore, most cannabis drinks have zero calories and carbs, while plenty of alcoholic drinks have a ton of empty calories. This makes cannabis drinks the better option for people who would like to have a fun night out without messing with their diet. They are also perfect for individuals who would like to try cannabis but cannot or do not want to smoke, vape or eat edibles; recovering alcoholics who are weaning themselves off of alcohol; and people who require lower doses of cannabis.

Regardless of the reason why users would choose a cannabis drink, companies such as BevCanna Enterprises Inc. (CSE: BEV) (OTCQB: BVNNF) (FSE: 7BC) offer a wide variety of infused drinks to choose from.
